AIM:
METHOD:
Using metaphors representing the training course, there are three phases.
A
The
group is separated in 4 sub-groups and they use boats to take different
places in the lake (approx 30 meters apart from each other). They
get blindfolded and they have to come together. Once they are all
together they remove the blindfolds.
B
Form
a flower with the boats and make it turn around.
C
Take
some distance between the boats and whenever they feel they are ready go
back to the shore. NO talking allowed in this phase.
MATERIALS:
5 boats
(one for the team and reporter)
11 blindfolds
rope
hulahoop
REFLECTION
QUESTIONS:
You
have just had an activity of 3 phases. We invite you to take some
time to think about it and, whenever you feel ready, share with the group
whatever you feel is important.
CREATING & RUNNING THE EXERCISE AT BEBRUSAI
We identified the type of group (familiar people, three new persons to fit in, one not speaking English, part of the larger group, three former leaders, close to ending the course); then the needs (three people to fit in, awareness concerning the ending procedure, give trainers opportunity) and we clarified the goal of the activity. To decide who would do what we asked each other who wishes to do what. It was difficult to come up with the final activity so that it would meet our goals. It was interesting, challenging and fun, too.
REFLECTION:
Unlike other people we don't feel we took any risk (in physical or emotional
level). The particular activity was built for the particular group.
We feel there were different styles of leadership and during the activity
we realised we were behaving in a different way. (Even though we thought
we made it clear while preparing the activity). Also working with
people from different backgrounds was illuminating and helpful.
