Cast Member Bios of the "Kids in the Hall."
Dave Foley
Starred in the television series "News Radio," on NBC. Born and raised in Toronto, he attended alternative high school where he began writing stand-up comedy for a creative writing project. His interest in improving his comedic skills led him to a comedy workshops, where he met and began creating material with Kevin McDonald. While working as ushers in an arthouse movie theater, Foley and McDonald met Mark McKinney and Bruce McCulloch at a midnight comedy fest, and in 1984, with the addition of Scott Thompson, they became The Kids in the Hall.
Bruce McCulloch
Released his Atlantic debut album "Shame-based Man" in the spring of 1995 and has also made several short films for "Saturday Night Live" as well as writing for the show. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, McCulloch studied journalism at Mount Royal College in Calgary before turning to writing comedy at the city's Loose Moose Theater Company. There he joined Mark McKinney to form The Audience, the nucleus of what was to become The KIds in the Hall. During The Kids' tenure, McCulloch served as writer, director, and performer for the show. Bruce McCulloch iks the author of three plays which have been performed in theaters across Canada: "Trapped On A Lawn Chair," "Jazz Stenographer," and "Two Headed Roommate." The latter was written when McCulloch was participating in the playwriting unit at Toronto's Tarragon Theater. It was produced at the Grand Theater in London, Ontario in 1992.
Kevin McDonald
Made his feature film debut in "National Lampoon's Senior Trip" directed by Kelly Makin. Born in Montreal, McDonald moved with his family at age seven to Los Angeles, where his father sold dental equiptment "to the dentists of the stars." The family the moved to Toronto where he still lives. He briefly studied drama at Humber College and then joined Second City Workshop where he met and teamed with Dave Foley, eventually forming "The Kids in the Hall." Mcdonald has written and performed for the comedy group for ten years.
Mark McKinney
He has Recedived a 1990 CableACE Best Actor Award for "The Kids" HBO series, and in January 1995, he joined the cast of "Saturday Night Live." Born in Ottawa, McKinney spent an itinerant childhood as the son of a diplomat, living in such places as Trinidad and Tobago, Paris, and Washington, D.C. He studied political science Memorial University of Newfoundland for a period before heading to Calgary intending to work in oil. Instead, he discovered improvisational comedy at the Loose Moose Theater where he formed a troupe called The Audience with writer Norm Hiscock and Bruce McCulloch. Mark and Bruce eventually ventured back east to Toronto where they met up with the future members of RThe Kids in the Hall. Mark has also performed in various stage productions, recently returning to Calgary and subsequently the Edinburgh Festival to perform in Brad Fraser's "Ugly Man."
Scott Thompson
He has been a member of The Kids in the Hall soince 1984. Scott, since the end of "The Kids in the Hall" television show, has gone on to more critically-acclaimed work with his addition to the cast of HBO's "The Larry Sanders Show" as Hank Kingsley's (Jeffrey Tambor) socially-concious assistnat Brian. Thompson has completred and independent film "Hijacking Hollywood" with Henry Thomas. In addition, Scott has jumped aboard the internet with the creation of his own site called Scottland. A native of Brampton, Ontario, Scott spent time at York University in Toronto where he studied acting while also working with a local sketch comedy troupe called Ther Love Cats.
