My Hobbies and Interests

Welcome to my "cyber" gallery; I enjoy lots of different crafts.
Crocheting afghans and baby blankets is primarily a winter craft.
There's nothing like a toasty afghan in your lap when the snow is
falling. Cross stitch is very portable for those long camping
weekends when your fingers need exercising; and there's nothing
like a bead workout when you're feeling sluggish. Just working
out your own design does wonders for your mental exercising. We
get our fingers flying, our brains spinning and we are on our way.

Elvis amulet bag was designed by Dona for her first book
Beading Heart Designs Amulet Purses. He is wonderful and done in shades
of bronzes. The strap has some of his song titles on it and the guitar
charms were Dona's inspiration. She is already at work on her next book.
The bronze colors didn't scan well; the bag is gorgeous.

Here's my version of Rayney's spiked spiral with Pat's grape fairyfly.
I love this piece of lampwork and think the dutch spiral
is a perfect frame for the sprite.

The unicorn cab is finished with a baby spiral strap and embellished
with multiple rounds of beads around the bezel set cab. See the cab
tutorial on my weekend page.

This piece was originally charted by Dona Anderson for her book, but not
used. He is done in delicas; I designed the straps and fringe.

Here's the Picasso Tiger piece that Dona Anderson created a chart for
me from a picture on my wall. It is done in Delicas and the tiny
baby spiral that Karen Davis taught me. The fringe on the front is
branch/stick fringe with hearts in opposite corners and leaves with pale
purple small flowers vining up through the leaves. The back is bugle bead
fringe for an entirely different look with a stylish "K" initial and a cat
charm in the fringe both front and back; Dude is on the front and Squeak is
on the back. The ufo is finished; fringe is not my favorite thing.

Leopard Eyes amulet bag, designed by Suzanne Cooper who was so kind
as to compliment me on the piece. I be walking 3 feet off the ground.
Done in Delicas with Mill Hill seed beads as accent florets at the
of the stick fringe; one side is more colorful than the other.

My first free form sculptured peyote piece from Rayney's online class;
who proves the point, that an old dog can learn new tricks!! I used Mill
Hill seed beads; the background is bronze and the florets are mostly
orange with light yellow tops; tossed in some red and pink to break up
the monotony. Did the Oglala butterfly stitch for net ruffling the edge.
I added a dutch spiral and now it's a necklace.

Back before cigarette smoking became a capital offense, beaded,
Bic disposable lighter covers were very popular. All the design
work was my own and I sold lots of them at $20.00 apiece. Does that
give you any idea, how many years ago that was? Now amulet bags
are all the rage and they're are a little bit wider; just need to
add a neckpiece and close the bottom. Just goes to show that
everything old is new again.

And another one

My first amulet bag with Barbara Elbe's Back to Beadin' Book
worked in tubular peyote rather than brick stitch

Reading has always been a refuge for me; when the world gets rough
it's time to take a break and do a little reading. Some of my
favorite writers are Stephen King, Patricia Cornwell, Sharyn MacCrumb
Dean Koontz, James Patterson and Dan Simmons. Robert McCammon is
a little known genre writer; when John D. MacDonald died, my heart
broke. Alas, there will be no more Travis McGee mysteries. I like
recurring characters; spooky, suspense, and what if situations.
When I read, I prefer to go completely away. It keeps me
sane. How about you? I will list recommended titles by the
my favorite authors and a direct link to Amazon Books with their
discount if you place an order from my website.
