KEVIN SMITH.

This page is dedicated to the films of Kevin Smith, the writer/director/ co-star of some of the funniest movies ever made. His movies are hilarious and smartly written, with very clever and realistic dialogue. The characters in his films talk like people talk in real life. When the men in his films talk about sex and comic books, that's the way men talk when they get together. That's what makes his movies so funny, the realism.

CLERKS.

Kevin's first film was made in his hometown of Leonarado,New Jersey for an extremely small amount of money. It tells the story of two clerks, Dante Hicks and Randal Graves, who work in stores right next to eachother. Dante works in a convenience store,Randal in a video store. The story also follows Jay and Silent Bob,a couple of hilarious dope dealers who sell outside the stores.Throughout the day Randal closes the store and comes over to talk to Dante about sex,Star Wars, and any other thing that happens to come to mind.Since Dante wasn't scheduled to work that day and was called in at the last minute they assume that means that it's the boss's fault if they do anything irresponsible. And they do,closing the store to play hockey on the roof,go to a funeral, and letting the hockey players take all the Gatorade for free.Dante also gets an endless series of bad news throughout the day, finding out that the ex-girlfriend that he still loves is getting married, his current girlfriend is VERY experienced, another ex-girlfriend died from an a brain embolism in a pool, and he gets fined for selling cigarettes to a little kid. This all leads to the moment when his ex-girlfriend comes to the store, and ends up with a hilarious but disturbing ending.Four and a half stars out of five.My favorite comedy of all time.Watch the credits for Kevin's detailed thank yous and the promise that Jay and Silent Bob will return in DOGMA.

MALLRATS.

Mallrats is also very funny, but most critics hated it.This movie follows the story of Brodie Bruce and TS Quint, friends who are dumped by their girlfriends on the same day and to ease their pain decide to go to the local mall and hang out.At the mall Brodie and TS meet up with Jay and Silent Bob,the dope dealers from Clerks, who are planning to sabotage the taping of a dating game show that's going to be played in the mall that day.TS finds out that this game show is run by his ex-girlfriend's dad and she is going to be the bachelorette that the bachelors will be competing for. Throughout the day Jay,Bob,Brodie, and TS plan to sabotage the show while talking about sex, comic books,Star Wars, and anything else that happens to come to mind.Mallrats isn't as funny as Clerks, but it's still hilarious, and when they finally do sabotage the game show it almost does reach the level of Clerks.Four stars out of five.Watch the credits for Kevin's thank yous and the promise that Jay and Silent Bob will return in CHASING AMY.

CHASING AMY.

While Clerks and Mallrats are simple stories about men and women, Chasing Amy is a little more complicated and alot more personal to Kevin. It tells the story of comic book makers Holden McNeil and Banky Edwards. They're best friends but their friendship begins to fall apart when Holden falls in love with fellow comic maker Alyssa Jones, who is a lesbian.Alyssa changes her lifestyle to be with Holden...or does she?Throughout the film Holden's relationships with Banky and Alyssa get more and more complicated and heated until Holden gets advice from Jay and Silent Bob and brings Banky and Alyssa together to talk to them. The film is very emotional and not completely a comedy, although it has it's comedic moments.Mostly it succeeds on an emotional level, not a funny one.Four stars out of five. Watch the credits for Kevin's thank yous and the promise that Jay and Silent Bob really will return in DOGMA.

DOGMA.

Kevin switches gears slightly will this film, which tells the story of Bethany,a woman from Illinois who works at an abortion clinic and is suddenly thrust into a situation almost beyond comprehension. An angel comes to her and tells her that she needs to go to New Jersey to stop two fallen angels,Loki and Bartelby, from entering a church and cleansing their souls, thus getting back into heaven. If they get back into heaven this will go against God's plans and destroy creation. So,Bethany sets out for New Jersey with the help of Rufus, the forgotten thirteenth disciple,Serendipity, a muse, and Jay and Silent Bob,who have been chosen for some reason. The film is very funny, with discussions of religion, sex,Star Wars, and Fat Albert. There are some gory scenes and the film is very exciting, with a good bit of action. It's also very long. The original cut was three hours. Four stars out of five.

SUPERMAN LIVES.

Anyone who's seen Kevin's movies knows that Kevin is a big comic fan, and in 1996,he was hired to write the new Superman movie for Warner Bros., which was to star Nicolas Cage and be directed Tim Burton.Kevin's script is very good, though the action scenes are a little lacking. When Burton came onto the project he tossed out Kevin's script and hired Wesley Strick, who worked on The Saint, and Akiva Goldsman, who wrote Batman And Robin.(Barf!) With these two terribile writers on the project it soon died and will not be made.

KEVIN SCRIPTS

FLETCH 3.

It was announced in 1996 or 1997 that Kevin would be writing the script for the third film in the Fletch series, starring Chevy Chase, and would also possibly direct it.Kevin says he learned how to write comedy by reading the Fletch books,so he should make a pretty interesting sequel. The problem is I haven't heard anything more about this for about two years.

CLERKS:THE COMIC BOOK.

Kevin is now writing a comic book series starring Dante,Randal,Jay, and Silent Bob that will only come out every once in a while,it's not monthly or anything.

JAY AND SILENT BOB.

Jay And Silent Bob is a four-issue series telling the story of what happend to everyone's favorite dope dealers between their appearance in Chasing Amy and their adventures in Dogma.

DAREDEVIL.

Kevin wrote the first six issues of the new Daredevil series, telling the story of blind lawyer/hero Matt Murdock.

GREEN ARROW.

Kevin is also doing a stint on this comic series, which I know nothing about.

GOOD WILL HUNTING.

One of my favorite films of all time,Good Will Hunting tells the story of a young man who works as a janitor at Harvard and is actually a genius who doesn't want to use his gift of superior intelligence and because of a troubled childhood is afraid to fall in love.Matt Damon does a great job as the title character,as do Robin Williams as his therapist,Ben Affleck as his best friend, and Minnie Driver as his girlfriend.Kevin produced this film.

NAME.

Right now this film is a rumor,Kevin recently mentioned it in a DOGMA interview.Supposedly it's about Jeff Anderson's Randal Graves character working at a theme park.I don't know if this film is real or not.
