Kayla died from injuries
sustained when she was thrown against a floor. Her step-father, William
Eric Stokes was charged with her murder, however he tried to say Kayla's
mother, Alice Stokes was the one who inflicted the injuries and decided
to testify against her after she aborted their child a month after he was
jailed. The mother was sentenced to one year in prison and five years probation
for failing to protect Kayla from her stepfather. (No information as to
what Stokes' sentence was.)

Rebecca Davis
13 years old
Died from not receiving
medical treatment
Rebecca died because her
parents, encouraged by their pastor, chose prayer over medical treatment
for her diabetes. The parents, David and Ann Davis,
pleaded guilty to negligent
manslaughter and the preacher, Rev. Richard Vaden pleaded guilty to being
an accessory before the fact. They all received probation.

Shantique Declue
5 months old
Died from shaken baby syndrome
and being dropped
Shantique suffered a fractured
skull, eye hemorrhages and swelling of the brain after being shaken and
dropped. Her mother's boyfriend, Kenneth Gebhardt, who lived with them,
and was babysitting Shantique and her brother while their mother was at
work was convicted of second-degree murder. He received a life sentence
and a concurrent seven-year term for child abuse.
