Bunny girl and Pig boy
By Nigel Auchterlounie
taken from "Zum" review by Mike KidsonThe point here is that people are animals and behave like them — the dialogue is everyday domestic stuff and, although plenty of jokes about the behaviour of the animals depicted are thrown in, only half a dozen words need altering if the drawings were of humans. As always I'm impressed by the skill with which Auchterlounie combines intelligent scripts and simple, finely observed cartooning to create strips which seem superficial but linger in the memory long after they're read. More, please.

AN INTRODUCTION TO PIG BOY AND BUNNY GIRL?
BY ANDY SMITH (THERE GOES TOKYO…)
"WHY THIS WIERDO ISN'T FAMOUS YET ESCAPES ME." THAT, BELIEVE IT OR NOT WAS MY IDEA FOR THE TITLE OF THIS HERE INTRODUCTION, AND I RECKON IT MIGHT JUST HAVE HIT THE MARK. NIGEL AUCHTERLOUNIE HAS BEEN FEVERISHLY (IS THAT A WORD) CREATING THESE WONDERFUL SLICES OF ANIMAL LIFE FOR YEARS, AND SINCE THE SLAB-O-CONCRETE (R.I.P) POSTCARD EDITION I HAVE BEEN WELL AND TRULY HOOKED. IT'S NOT THE FACT THAT PIG BOY SEEMS TO SUFFER ALL THE INDIGNITIES OF ANY REDBLOODED WORKSHY, JOB HATING JOE LIKE MYSELF, OR THAT HE CAN'T SEEM TO GRASP A CONCEPT UNLESS HE'S SEEN IT ON A SCI-FI SHOW, (TOO, TOO CLOSE TO THE BONE THERE). HELL, IT'S NOT EVEN THE FACT THAT ITS LIKE TUNING IN TO YOUR FAVOURITE SOAP OPERA, COMEDY SHOW AND FLY ON THE WALL DOCU-SOAP ALL AT THE SAME TIME. IT IS INFACT DUE TO THE FACT THAT I FIND MYSELF ENDLESSLY QUOTING THIS GUYS' STUFF. MUCH LIKE PIGBOY'S INABILITY TO COMPREHEND REALITY WITHOUT A T.V SHOW TO COMPARE IT TO, I FIND MYSELF CONSTANTLY STARTING SENTENCES WITH……" IT'S LIKE WHEN PIG BOY SAID.." AND " SIMON CAT DID SOMETHING LIKE THAT…." I CAN'T THINK OF MANY COMICS THAT HAVE AFFECTED MY ABILITY FOR ABSTRACT THOUGHT IN SUCH A NEGATIVE WAY. IN SHORT, BUY THIS. BUY EVERYTHING THIS GUY WRITES. SLOWLY BUT SURELY YOU WILL REALISE EVERY MUNDANE CONVERSATION YOU EVER HAD, EVERY LITTLE BITCHY COMMENT MADE AT THE T.V WHEN KIRKS' TEACHING SOME ALIEN MORE OF THAT EARTH THING CALLED KISSING, EVERY TIME YOU THINK OF SOMETHING FUNNY TO SAY, IT'LL BE A QUOTE FROM ONE OF THIS GUYS' COMICS. DO THIS, FOR ME. THEN I WON'T FEEL SO BAD.
