Glacier National Park Lodges
Glacier Park Lodges
During the early part of the century, the Great Northern railroad saw large potential in attracting tourists to the natural wonders in northern Montana. Since the railroad right of way traversed the southern end of the park area, it envisioned hauling large numbers of affluent passengers to the park from the West Coast and the mid-west on its trains. To support these travelers, the railroad built and operated most of the beautiful lodges inside the park area. At the time they were built, the railroad spared virtually no expense in their construction. The only large lodge in the park not built by the railroad is the Lake McDonald Lodge. Be sure to tour many of these great lodges to get a flavor of western spirit and culture back at the turn of the century.
