What type of music inspires you?
I love bands like The Doors, Radiohead, Tool, Jeff Buckley. Who are the people that inspire you? My parents. My dad was Indian and my mum's Maltese. He was Hindu; she is Catholic and, despite their differences, they made it work. Did you experience racism? Sure, when I was younger. Kids can be brutal in their honesty, but they're only repeating what they've heard. What's the most bizarre thing you've sung about? Well there's one track on the album called 'Let Me Die Young' and it's about my father's sudden passing away four years ago. I poured my heart out to the guys in the band and, 10 minutes later, we had this song. Have you ever suffered from stage fright? The only time I was ever nervous was when I sang 'Amazing Grace' at my dad's funeral. How would you serenade a woman? It would depend on my mood, but I'd probably pick 'So Real' by Jeff Buckley. It's sexy and says everything you want it to. Finish this sentence: 'Girls just wanna have fun and guys just wanna...' ...have girls. If there was a bumper sticker about musicians what would it say? Turn it up or go home. Have you got any groupies? We've got some. They follow you around the state to see you play and they give you teddy bears, cards and flowers. Some of the stuffed animals have accidentally become doggy chew toys. If you were out to impress, what flowers would you send? What would the note say? Id send irises and probably just jot down a phrase like 'The beginning...?' When you become rich and famous, what's the first thing you're going to do? I'm going to buy my mum a Cadillac - just like Elvis. In hot pink. What sort of woman would inspire you to pen a song for her? I'm attracted to bold women who aren't easily impressed - the ones you have to try really hard with and the ones who make you laugh. So how would you impress a woman? I'd probably do something stupid. Make a fool of myself. Fall off a chair. I've done THAT before. What is the biggest cliche about love? That it hurts.
