The Larson Family
INTRODUCTION
This is a basic summary of my research. I may (and probably do) have more details and information hidden away in a notebook or one of the towering paper piles in my office. However, I think the basic genealogy is fairly complete here. I happily welcome additions and corrections.
I began the Larson research in 1997. I have always had a strong interest in this lineage as I was named for my grandmother, Jennie Helen Larson Scofield, whom I never got to meet. I received a lot of help from my great aunt and my mother.
Thank you both and everyone else who has assisted me in this journey backwards...
This record begins with Helge Tovson Seim. I begin with him because according to the Roldal bydgebok (Roldal, Norway family/history book), he was the immigrant ancestor.
For those who may not know the naming custom of Norwegians, the beginning of this record might be difficult for you to understand. The first name was a given name. The middle name was the father's first name with a "son" added for sons and "sdatter" added for daughters. The last name was the farm name where the individual lived (a kind of zip code). If the individual changed locations, this third name also reflected the change.
It wasn't until after arriving in America did my branch assume the Larson surname and end the traditional Norwegian naming practice.
