The Joseph W. Place Family
Joseph W. and Mary Jane Place had at least eight children:
- George Wildy Place
- Mary Jane Place
- Charles Wildy Place
- John Joseph Place
- Emeline Adelia Place, born Oct. 5, 1837 - MY LINE
- Clarissa Ann Place
- Josephine Place
- John W. Place
John W. Place died on Sept. 29, 1833. Joseph W. Place, his father, died on Oct. 17, 1841. Clarissa Ann Place died on Aug. 3, 1843. The three of them are buried at Hunts Creek Cemetery in Jefferson Township in Switzerland County, Indiana.
Mary Jane Place, the mother, married a Thomas Boas on Oct. 8, 1845 in Switzerland County, Indiana and moved to Davis County, Iowa.
In the 1860 Census for Davis County, Iowa, in Bloomfield Township (dwelling #261, family #230, I found the following:
Place, Mary J., 30yrs old, born in Indiana
Place, Josephine, 8yrs old, born in Missouri
Place, Martha B., 6yrs old, born in Kentucky
Place, Edward, 3yrs old, born in Indiana
Boas, Thomas H., 43yrs old, born in Kentucky, farmer
Boas, Mary J., 56yrs old, born in Pennsylvania
Boas, Thomas H., 13yrs old, born in Indiana
Boas, Susanna, 12yrs old, born in Indiana
I think the 56yr old Mary J. Boas is the same Mary Jane Place, mother of Emeline. I haven't quite worked out all of the relationships yet.
