Mrs Darling was born Dec. 20, 1952 in Astoria (Oregon), to Myrle and Vera Hitchman. Her parents survive, living in Warrenton (Oregon). Mrs. Darling grew up in Warrenton and graduated from Warrenton High School in 1970. She later attended Northwest Business College.
An active volunteer in the Seaside community, Mrs. Darling was involved in many civic, athletic and charitable organizations and activities. She will be remembered by her family as a devoted mother, and as a gourmet cook with a quick wit who loved to entertain family and friends. She was an avid supporter of her children's sports activities.
Mrs. Darling is survived by a son, Dan Darling of Bend (Oregon), a daughter Derai Darling of Seaside; her longtime companion, Jeff Wood of Seaside; a sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Gale Fitzpatrick of Warrenton; a brother, Greg Hitchman of Warrenton; four nieces and nephews, Shawna and Lenny Hitchman and Chris Fitzpatrick and Stephanie Pedraza, two great-nephews, Derek Clark and Isaac Hitchman; numerous close friends and family; and former husband David Darling of Seaside.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Seaside High School Athletic Fund in care of U.S. National Bank or the John Wayne Cancer Institute.
A celebration of life service will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Best Western Ocean View Resort in Seaside.
