The layout of Bryn Gwlad bears a most unusual design seldom seen outside the Netherlands. The walled town was designed to be surrounded by water routed from the bay that is then enclosed by another high stone wall. This affords Bryn Gwlad not only an extra layer of protection but a constant source of water, which accounts for the port town's year-round green and lush appearance. A walkway known as The Promenade follows the inside of the outside wall and hexagonal-shaped rests along the way provide additional parks and space for growing crops.

The eastern quadrant gives way to the docks, where Bryn Gwlad's thriving sea trade is plied year 'round. This area combines the best and the worst of the port town. Shire Hall, Bankers Row, and Customs Row house the Town Council, cartographer, solicitor and goldsmith Shadrac & Newbold (10) and most of the town's financial businesses. Dock Strete is the main thoroughfare, where the Inn of the Weary Traveler (13) is located. Following Dock Strete out through North Gate by the stables (11) is the Strand and Customs House (16). The gaol is located on Gallows Alley, next to Thieves Alley (8) and near Hangman's Hill (7). (Click map to view in detail)
