Free-time Pastimes
BB September 1998

How are you spending your summer? Are you ready to get up and go or would you rather kick back and relax? Find out what hobbies you have inc ommon with the rhythm-and-blues-belting babes behind the album Keep On.

Doesn't it seem like you have all the time in the world! What are you doing with your school-free summer break? Camping, swimming, playing or just taking all-day outings to the mall? Whatever it is, summer's the time to have fun and soak up the sun. Well, at least for Boppers it is.

But what if you're a super-sensational singing group whose time is mostly taken up by traveling and touring rather than resting and relaxing? For the answer, we went straight to the source: the singing sweeties of No Authority. Here Danny Zavatsky, Eric Stretch, Josh Keaton and Ricky Felix share how they spend their summer when they take a break from sticking to their most favorite pastime of all: singing!

up for rough-and-tumble romping

Free time might be scarce for the babes behind "Don't Stop," but some of the boys still have hair-rasing hobbies. One look at the gorgeous guys and it's a cinch to see which one of the group grabs a board and heads to the shore whenever he gets the chance. "I'm really into surfing right now," shares Danny, whose laid-back look of baggy jeans and untucked T-shirts gives away his passion for riding the waves.

Coming from teh California coastal city Long Beach, it's not surprising the blue-eyed babe (who celebrated his sweet 16 this month) was introduced to the sport by his father, Steve, rather than a best bud. "My dad, he udes to surf when he was younger and he got his old board and [asked me] if I wanted to go out," the baby of the group shares. "He bought a surfboard for me. I've been surfing for about two years now." However, the cuties was quick to tell BB that catching curls isn't his only passoon. "And I skateboard and snowboard," Danny exclaims.

"It wasn't fun anymore"

Daredevil Danny isn't the only rough-and-tumble one of the group. Eric, who has always been footloose and fancy free, took a shot at soccer before he ever stepped on the stage. "I used to be totally competitive in soccer," Eric (who turns 18 this month) shares. "I was on a traveling team and everything. I must say, I was pretty good."

Unfortnatly, the California native, who put a lot of time and energy into perfecting his playing, found out the hard way that not everyone was a good sport. "It was so competitive that it wasn't fun anymore," Eric groans. "I was playing it my whole life and finally I was like, 'I don't want to play this anymore.' So I quit."

Turning in his soccer shoes to take a turn at singing and dancing wasn't easy for Eric since he comes from a long line of athletes. "My whole family is complete sports freaks," Eric chuckles. "And it's really weird that I'm in a different industry- dancing and singing." These days, when eric gets a break, he takes to the field only for fun games with friends or family.

While Danny and Eric are more than happy to get down and dirty, Ricky opts for less athletic activites to keep him occupied. It's obvious from the moment you meet the brown-eyed babe that he's the super-sensitive type wholikes to spend some of his spare time just kicking back. "I love to read books and I love to sit and talk about the writing and stuff," the 17-year-old relates.

But that doesn't mean to sweet-natured songster is the couch-potato type. As a matter of fact, when the fabulous four stopped by BB's headquarters recently, Ricky was the one who couldn't sit still- he's always movin' and grovin'.

Ricky's passion for dancin' is what landed him in the group, so if he's not reading or writing songs in his spare time, you can surely find him out and about rockin' the house. "I love to go dancing at clubs and things," the singer shares.

Yet this melody maker doesn't confine his urge to rock around the clock just to clubs. The California kid snagged himself a dazzling dancing part in the 1997 movie Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. In case you didn't recognize him, he's the one rocking out wearing a really bright orange retro turtleneck with tight stripped pants in the opening street dance sequence!

Ricky isn't the only one who likes to spend his spare time doing the more serence stuff. Josh isn't too fond of the knock-'em-down-roll-'em-around-type of hobbies, either. Instead, the well-rounded performer has a passion for acting that gobbles up most of his spare time- that is, if he has any! "[Acting] the one thing that I have kind of stuck with for a long time," the blue-eyed babe says.

Sticking with his fave hobby has landed the 19-year-old California native guest-starring spots on ABC-TV's Boy Meets World and Step by Step. The totally talented cutie also recently won a role on the ABC soap General Hospital, but since things are going so well fo No Authority, Josh has decided not to start shooting for a while (so keep your eyes peeled).

Even though he's getting great gigs on TV, Josh assures us that he's not about to ditch his successful singing career for moviemaking. "Acting goes really well and that's what's taking off, but rught now, it's the music," the commited singer says. "Well, we're so glad that Josh and his gorgeous groupmates have decided to hold off thier hobbies in oder to keep on croooning for us. Thanks, guys!
