Waiting.... Waiting...Waiting
Based On: Rilla Of Ingelside
By Me

Love of life and love of laughter,
Joyous in glad youth’s bright day;
Singing sunshine to her hearers,
For such was pretty Rilla’s way.

Waiting for all life could bring her,
Never knowing what would come;
When the world became afire,
With the beat of battle’s drum.

Stood she there and watched them marching,
Brothers, sweetheart and dear friends,
Smiling bravely, all the while
Anguish did her young heart rend.

Hiding tears behind her laughter,
Yet a false note would creep through;
Dreaming of a happy ending,
To the war and to her own rue.

Hid she in her rainbowed valley,
At last let loose her captured tears;
After learning from her father,
That truthful were all her fears.

Of her brothers, he she loved best,
Had there at Courcelette been slain,
So she waited- what would come next?
Would yet more by him be lain?

Waiting for those who would return,
Keeping the faith as he had said
In a poem that thrilled the world,
Long after Walter Blythe was dead.

Years flew by as Rilla waited,
Until at last that joyous hour
When the news so welcome sounded,
From the Church bells to each bower.

She had lost some things forever,
Never would her laugh be quite free,
From the tinge of pain reminding,
Of his grave across the sea.

I'll me adding three more soon! COPYWRITE 2000, ROSEWYNDS MANOR
