THE DEEP SOUTH
Garage Alley with Miami looming in the background

The Deep South,  Features great garage bands from Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississipi and Louisiana.  Buckle up as we race through Atlanta, Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, Miami, Birmingham, Jackson, New Orleans and Shreveport.

The lead song 'I Don't Need You' is a classic garage piece by Mark Markham & His Jesters from Fort Lauderdale.  Harmonica, organ and a slashing guitar, bass and drum provide a powerful engine for Marks sneering lyric "I wouldn't touch you baby, if I could."  'I don't Need You' reached #1 on the chart at WQAM in 1966.

Also from Fort Lauderdale are the Mor-loks (pictured below) who played the clubs and dances in South Florida.  The Mor-loks actually had two different line-ups (caused by the Vietnam draft) with the first group recording 'Elaine' in 1965.  The second group recorded 'What My Baby Wants' in 1966.
