The Heartland consists of bands from Ohio, Pennsylvania and Kentucky.
It is no coincidence that the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame is located in Cleveland, Ohio.
I think you will agree that the garages across the Heartland of America produced some fabulous music. The Heartland features The Vandaliers from Fremont, Ohio. Original members were Whitney Gwinup - lead guitar, Wayne Van Dore - drums, Walt Harkness (later replaced by Harry Kerr) - bass Guitar, and Herman Cesniros (later replaced by Garry Coleman) - saxaphone. Tony Kowalski with a B-3 organ became the 5th Vandalier. Practice began in the Gwinups one car garage in Fremont. Soon, The Vandaliers were playing to excited dance crowds across the northern Ohio region between Akron and Cleveland. On May 20, 1965, the Vandaliers opened for the Beach Boys at the sport arena in Toledo. The Vandaliers spawned the Turfits and Mail Order whose music is also heard on The Heartland.
