Superman N64/PSX

Based on the popular animated series, Titus Software's upcoming Superman for the Nintendo 64 and Sony Playstation is bringing America's favorite super-hero into a polygonal 3D world.

This game displays the close cooperation between developer Titus and Superman studio Warner Bros. The cityscapes fully capture the look and feel of Metropolis in the animated series, with plenty of steep angles and Art Deco-ish skyscrapers up close and in the distance.

Titus says that flight will be a big part of game play. The Man of Steel will catch plenty of air time as he explores Metropolis. Superman will even be able to fly inside buildings.

The story is simple: Superman must save Lois (and the world) from the evil, malicious, smart guy Lex Luthor, who wants to take over and control Metropolis and its citizens.

Superman will have to rescue citizens trapped in a burning building and play detective as he tracks down a key to get into a locked room. Jimmy Olsen, Lois Lane, Perry White will play major roles in the game. Naturally, Clark Kent will appear, too.

Superman casts you in the role of reporter/part-time hero Clark Kent. After you find yourself a telephone booth, you fly to the sky and protect Metropolis from the bad guys, mostly Lex's henchmen (the Dark Shadows). On your quest to free Lois, you will battle many supervillains from the comic and TV show. Here is an incomplete list of foes:

According to IGN64.com, Titus is planning to put almost every single villain who has appeared in the animated series into the game. Also, most of the environments are based on the real thing.

This game has 16 levels, from the streets of Metropolis to Luthor's robot factory. The first level involves Superman's young friend/co-worker Jimmy Olsen getting in trouble -- and it's up to the Big S to save him. In order to rescue the redhead reporter, Superman has to make his way through the parking garage of the Daily Planet building and take it up with the Dark Shadows, evil hitmen dressed in black. Thankfully, the Man of Steel can rely on his superpowers and either punch them out, or give them a taste of his heat vision or freeze breath. In case he's in trouble, Superman can also take to the air at any time and escape. Other levels include Big Hotel, a Lexcorp warehouse, the submarine grotto, the Metropolis subway tunnels, STARlab, and even outer space.

Some of Superman's superpowers are not immediately accessible to Superman, but eventually, players will be able to pull off the following:

Titus is also including a four-player deathmatch mode. Players pick either Superman, or one of his enemies, and battle each other in spaceships over Metropolis.

During the first week of release a limited edition Superman comic book will be included in the game boxes.

With Superman, Titus has gotten its hands on perhaps the biggest comic license around. If the French developer manages to include all the action from the animated series, this could turn out to be another fine title with more than just a big name.

Lets hope a Batman game comes out for the N64 sometime soon!
