October 17, 2002
I have so much homework, and so little good sleep
now, that I am a little behind now. I'm going to study for a quiz
tomorrow in Astronomy, start an assignment, finish another, and go to bed
at a decent time tonight. There is a Rider game on Saturday, movies
on Friday night, and homework until my eyes pop out of my head for the
rest of the weekend. I think I fit in a pool game too, with some
laundry time thrown in out of necessity.
October 21, 2002
I have a midterm tomorrow that I have to prepare
for. It is a fairly simple class where we haven't learned too many
concrete ideas, so the midterm could be very tricky.
I watched Contact the space movie on Friday.
The next morning I watched the Riders barely beat the Lions 13 -11,
and played cards Saturday night.
October 23, 2002
I shot a movie today with Robert and Brien.
We were making a two minute trailer for a fake movie, with Brien as the
hero Captain Insaino Man, who wears a light blue cape and ski mask
and falls off of buildings, etc. We constructed a dummy from my pillow,
mask, safety pin, clips, balloon, and newspaper, to throw off of high places
to pretend our hero survives the falls. Editing is the next step
now, but that is up to the others, as it is for their lab assignment, not
mine.
October 25, 2002
The Riders blew a game in Edmonton. Now they
have no chance at hosting the playoff game. I went to Subway after
with Rob and Rick, and cashed in my free 6 inch sub.
I shot a few games of pool too, and lost the first
one, but won the next 2, with one of them the other player never sank one
of his balls. I played a solo game later, and sank all the balls
with the 8 last in 23 shots. The next time I did it in 17 shots so
I quit for the night.
October 26, 2002
Dad was in Regina today, and I went out to Swiss
Chalet for supper. The rest of the day consisted of homework and
... yet to be decided stuff.
October 29, 2002
I am surviving the flood of homework.
I had a friend over and we played cards, and watched Dr. Strangelove the
movie about the Atomic Bomb, created in the 1960s. It was very funny.
November 1, 2002
Halloween yesterday was good. I listed a bunch
of joke auctions on eBay including a scorched math textbook, empty candy
wrappers, rock set, half empty vaseline skin cream tube, and the movie
I shot with friends the other weekend around campus. The midterm
I wrote today didn't go so well, but I hope to make it up on the Final
exam.
I watched movies and TV in the evening after ordering
pizza. I had pizza for lunch, but the delivered stuff was a "bit"
better.
November 2, 2002
My rock set sold today, as did my two 50 cent coins.
I had someone interested in my car, but they are in Detroit, which is too
far for me to drive it.
November 4, 2002
My wrappers set sold today, and I'm running in a
Student
Union by-election. My campaign
page. "If you can mark an X, you are my kind of people!"
November 7, 2002
Working on my Astronomy 201 and CS400 assignments
tonight, after my Astronomy lab.
November 10, 2002
Yesterday I went to the Linux Open Source Expo at
the Ramada Hotel in Regina. I got a free CD with lots of cool open
source software that works on Windows computers. I can get the same
software for Linux too, if I ever completely switch. I went with
Robert, early in the morning for a Saturday. Earlier that night there
was a person trying to get into the residence, and when they failed they
pulled the fire alarm in the front lobby as they left quickly. I
went to bed at a decent time, so when I woke up quickly at 2:45am I thought
it was more like 6:00am. Lucky for me it wasn't because by that time
it was snowing hard in Regina. I threw on my pants [over my pajamas],
socks, shoes, watch, jacket, and grabbed my book bag as I left through
the back door which is very close to my room. I was prepared to leave
quickly and even had my wallet and camera with me, but decided not to use
either of them while I was up. Very few people were outside because
most had gone home for the long weekend. I joked with someone that
only the losers [who hadn't gone home] and foreign exchange students were
left in the building. For the first false alarm ever, we actually
got to go back inside before the fire department showed up, because this
time the security guard Bob had time to call the department, instead of
hunt or sit on the culprit who pulled the alarm.
After supper Brien, Robert and I went to see Spider
Man again. It is a really good movie, and this time Brien didn't
accidentally spill his popcorn on the girls in front of us. When
we got out of the movie theatre, I was a little disoriented as to what
time it was, and my watch was not accessible under my winter coat sleeve
so I asked Brien what time it was. He said, "quarter to nine," which
my brain translated as 9:45. I looked at the schedule carefully,
and determined that we had just missed the 9:38 bus back, and because it
was so late announced that we had to wait an hour for the 10:38 bus.
We were walking over to Dairy Queen for a snack to kill the time, and we
saw people going into the liquor store that we knew closed at 9:00.
I looked at my watch this time, and realized that there was another bus
in just 15 minutes. My confusion had fooled Brien's brain even, because
I showed him the schedule, and he didn't catch my mistake earlier either.
November 14, 2002
Well the past few days have disappeared into a whirlwind
of homework that is not going to let up. I just want to do anything
but homework. I had fun putting up posters for my campaign, but the
project deadlines are piling up, and so are assignments.
The snow in deep outside [for November], the homework
is piled high inside. There is no where to go.
November 15, 2002
The voting is over, but apparently counting less
than a thousand ballots takes more than an afternoon, so I don't know the
results yet.
I went to the India House restaurant today and had
a terrific meal, and got to keep all the leftovers for myself, yum.
After supper I was driven to see Road to Perdition, with Tom Hanks.
It was a great movie, but kinda sad. [ I won the election 20 to 15! ]
November 19, 2002
I had my first URSU Board of Directors meeting last
night. It was interesting, and funny. There are some clowns
about, because one person mentioned how the Campion Student Society was
offering "Choose Your Own Adventure - Bibles". That seems a little
far fetched.
Last night was the Leonid meteor shower for this
year. I went outside at 10:00 last night, and 4:30 in the morning
and took pictures. I saw a bright one last night, and about 20 this
morning, but only managed to get 2 with my camera. I was lucky to
get even those, since my camera can only take a portion of the sky at once,
and only for 15 seconds at a time. The two I photographed were even
in the same shot!
November 20, 2002
Today sucks. I don't know what makes it that
way, but I have no other explanation. For everything good that happened,
there was an equal or greater downside. Maybe I need more sleep,
or just a second brain so I can finish my homework successfully.
Hoping tomorrow will be better...
November 24, 2002
Grey Cup was today. The Eskimos lost in Edmonton
to the Montreal Al... Montreal Alou... Montreal Als: 25 - 16. Edmonton
missed a 2 point conversion with 50 seconds left, and never scored a point
in the first half. The oddest thing was though, that I saw both these
teams this year, and neither game was against the Riders. What were
the two games I went to that featured the Grey Cup teams, in 2002?
The first person who emails the correct answer to me wins a free lunch.
It doesn't matter if I don't even know you, just email me with the answer,
and you cash in; CHA-CHING!
I gave myself a haircut today. Don't laugh,
you haven't seen it yet. When you see it, THEN you can laugh if you
want to hurt my feelings. Just telling me what you think with a straight
face, would be much better.
Now I still have to do some homework tonight.
I can never completely pry myself away from a Grey Cup, even if the Riders
are not playing. I wish this were a good forum to spill my emotional,
as well as factual guts, but I know that it just wouldn't be a good idea.
My friends and family don't want to read that stuff anyway. It is
best to leave real life to real life, and "facts" to the Internet.
November 26, 2002
Another ho-hum day in another ho-hum week.
Mom went to Toronto yesterday. I need to do more homework, yada yada
yada...
Today I was part of a user study for a software project. It was
worth another mark on my class, from which I only got the first and second
assignment back in, today, the second last class. Fair, huh?
November 27, 2002
Wednesday today, and a blood clinic was held at
the Multi Purpose room. I went for the first time, with a friend,
and we proceeded to get our fingers pricked. My hemoglobin was excellent,
and my blood type was an excellent passing grade too :-) I got a
little nervous a few minutes after the finger prick, and started to sweat
a little and felt dizzy for a few moments. I went over to fill out
my forms and a nurse came over and asked if I was all right. I said
I felt dizzy for a moment, but I was OK now, [even thought I knew they
would probably fuss] and of course she started to quiz me to question whether
I should continue. I probably would have stopped at that point, except
Justin told me I'd be fine. The nurse told me that she guessed I'd
be a high risk candidate for keeling over :-( I guess I knew that
I would be fine anyway so I went ahead and did it. When the needle
was out, and that nurse came over, I told her that she was wrong this time,
with a big smile and a little wink. I told the nurse who took out
my needle that it was hard to juggle when they gave me only one ball to
hold, and tied my arm down. He agreed. I also thought it was
funny that was only 5 feet from where I had given my campaign speech
on stage just a few weeks before. I told Justin that I was a bleeding
heart then, and now I'm just bleeding. HAR HAR. Then I said
I died up there, now I'm dying here. He groaned again, and told me
I had to put that on all of my webpages.
I felt dizzy after I finished eating my free sub,
so they had me lie down for another 5 minutes and put cool cloths on my
face. Then I felt better and went to one of my two classes for the
afternoon. I bought chocolate almonds on the way to class, and I'm glad
I wrote this because it reminded me to have another, mmmmm good.
November 30, 2002
I went to a government surplus auction again today.
I bought 2 boxes for 5 dollars. They have mouses, keyboards, network
cards, old cell phone, dismantled hard drives, and modems. I already
sold a mouse today, so I recovered 20% of what I spent. I expect
I will make a wee bit of profit off this little buy of mine.
After, Mom got back from TO, and we all went to
"The Chimney". Dad must not be allowed to pick restaurants in the
future ;-) The only thing chimney like in the place were the patrons
we were seated beside, despite asking for a nonsmoking table. The
prices weren't hideous, but still were expensive, but the food tasted great.
Oh, how I miss Ottawa restaurants, and their nonsmoking bylaws.
December 3, 2002
The regular semester is over, and Finals begin for
me on Monday. I noticed there is a eBay free listing day coming soon
though, so I will list my haul from last Saturday's auction.
Today I took off from doing school work. I
figured I needed a short break after stressing out the last 2 days.
I put a new sound card in my computer and hope it doesn't cause things
to go wrong like the last one did.
December 4, 2002
School rolls on, as Finals gear up tomorrow.
But not for me, mine are next week, and the week after that. I'm
taking it easy for another day, doing just a little bit of reading, and
testing hardware for sale.
December 11, 2002
Went out for supper with Grandma and Aunt Madeline.
Melrose Place was good, expensive [ I didn't have to pay], and slightly
smoky.
My eBay auctions and Finals are keeping me busy. Not sure if
I passed one of my Finals. I'll know in a few days...
I have two final marks back, and am pleased to say
I got a 70 in Astronomy. The assignments were hard, so I did better
than I thought I deserved. CS 400 was a pass, but not too spectacular
in the low 60s.
Went to the India House restaurant for lunch with
Brien, Rick, and Peter. Then to the Southland mall where I did the
first and last of my Christmas shopping. Took 30 minutes, not bad
huh? Tonight I'm also going to Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers
tonight with Brian, James, and Elysha. Then tomorrow I head back
home for the Christmas holiday.
December 21, 2002
Winter has arrived. As of a few days ago there
was enough snow in Regina to convince you that it had been that way for
a few months. Here in Wood Mountain though, it is very dry.
Very little to no snow is on the ground.
I shipped some eBay packages yesterday, and I went
to Opheim to pick up Dad's new 19" monitor. It makes the desk look
small so I think I'm finally going to get to pull it out a little to straighten
the angle of viewing. Should help Dad with shoulder pains... but
I doubt he'll acknowledge why.
Our kitchen looks like the garage minus the vehicles.
Tools and parts everywhere as we hook up the new fridge's water, the stove's
gas, and fix the seal on the dishwasher. If Mom were home, she'd
have a fit.
December 25, 2002
Christmas is here, but we are opening the presents
on the 26th. Mom and Grandma are home, and I spent some of the day
in Lafleche.
eBay has a Free Listing Day on the 26th, so I'll
be busy listing auctions.
January 3, 2003
I had an interesting Christmas break. I went
home to Wood Mountain
on Dec.19 in the Regina snow, and when I got home there wasn't any snow
on the ground. It later snowed enough to have a white Christmas though.
I spent Christmas day in Lafleche at my Grandma's,
because Dad went to Regina to get my Mom and Grandma from Toronto. I got
a pool cue for Christmas, and will get a fish this weekend too. We opened
presents together on Boxing Day, and of all the time to do one - eBay had
a Free Listing Day where I managed to sell this tube
of paste and this card
with peanut butter.
My brother returned to the city last night, and
I'm headed back on Sunday. Classes start the next day sadly.
I hope they go better than last semester's classes. I have all 5
grades back now, and am not happy with them, but at least I passed everything.
Now I have to figure out if I want to take Astronomy
202 next semester [decided to take it]. I think I would enjoy the
material, but the assignments might be too hard in the amount of time I
could devote to them. I think I'll search through classes tonight
to find a substitute.
I also watched Men With Brooms just a few days ago.
It was really funny, but nothing special.
January 8, 2003
School is going well. Some classes look like
they will be tough, but so am I when it comes to CS stuff. The history
classes could be fun too, and I'll know lots more about Europe and the
Middle East.
I went to the used book store today in hopes of
finding my other history text, but didn't have any luck. I tried
to get my new ISIC card too for free, and their computer wasn't working.
At least my trip over to the Riddell Center wasn't wasted, because I bought
bus tickets. I found a TO subway token too in my wallet. Not
too handy now...
I went to Lord of the Rings II again last night
with Robert. It was cheap night so it was worth it, and Robert hadn't
seen it before. He thought it was very awesome, but I still maintain
Star Trek Nemesis was better. I got a Slurpee with my last 7-11 big
buck, deposited my cheque and Money Order in the bank at 7:40 to a real
live teller! The post office on Albert St. in Shoppers Drug Mart
worked well too. There is no more Shoppers in the Golden Mile, nor
just north of the Southland, just the giant Shoppers complex.
After the movie we walked back because the busses
were done running. It was very warm out, about -5 and we stopped
at Subway on the way back. I have a free 6" sub to cash in, and I
just realized that I didn't get my 2 subway stickers for the footlong I
bought, DOH!
January 12, 2003
Today was slow. I read History for ancient
Greeks, and played Unreal Tournament with friends.
January 21, 2003
School's flying by quickly. Got another assignment
to work on that might take a few hours. A few people have asked me
to help them with their computers that are acting up, so I'll have to squeeze
the assignment into a busy week. Two of the people are from Sydney
AU. There are at least 3 Australians in residence this semester.
I hope to pick up some tips, for when I eventually travel there.
Board meeting on Friday too. Still nothing
to report from this nearly dead campus, but oh well.
February 11, 2003
I went to the library today and took out books for
my Astronomy paper due next month. I also had to renew books for
one of my history classes. I'm writing about ancient medicine, which I
hope I'll find interesting.
I wrote a History midterm today about the Middle
Ages. I had to fill out a map, and write an essay on education and
law in the 12th century. I think I did pretty well.
[February 28, 2003]
Went to another Board meeting. Peter came
along to see if he'd like to run for Science Director next year.
The election will be at the end of March. The meeting took a really
long time because of an interesting presentation of expensive LAN TV software
that the Union is looking at buying. It would be cool, but the price
seems to be overkill.
