DATE TEA BREAD
makes 2 loaves of about 10 slices each
Ingredients:
240g stoned dates
1 level tsp bicarbonate of soda
300m1 boiling water
1 egg
120g caster sugar
360g self-raising flour
Method:
1. Grease and line two 500g-loaf tins with greased grease
proof paper.
2. Cut dates into small pieces, sprinkle with soda,
then pour boiling water over.
3~ Allow to cool and stir well. Beat in egg, sugar and sifted flour; divide mixture between prepared tins.
Bake on shelf below centre of a very slow oven Mark1
2900F1300C for 1-2 hours.
5. A clean, dry skewer should come out clean after being inserted into centre of
loaves. -
Turn baked loaves out on wire rack and allow to cool.
