Draft Cross/Warmblood Breeds

American Warmblood

Technically speaking, the American Warmblood is a horse that is neither 100% hotblood nor 100% coldblood but a cross of both. This does not necessarily mean that it is a draft cross, but any draft (coldblood) x hotblood is eligible for registration as an American Warmblood.

Georgian Grande

The Georgian Grande is a cross between any draft or Friesian (a Friesian being considered a draft in this registry) and a Saddlebred. The draft horse need not be registered as long as it is obviously a draft. The breed registry was created by Flying W Farms.

Spanish-Norman

The Spanish-Norman is a cross between an Andalusian or Lusitano stallion and a Percheron mare. The registry was set up by Hamid Hill Farm and the breed name is legally owned by the same. A horse cannot legally be referred to as a 'Spanish-Norman' unless the horse is registered with the Spanish-Norman Registry.

Note : Beware of horses being sold as Spanish-Normans unless you get the registration number and confirm with the registry that the horse is indeed registered or is eligible for registry.

SportShire

The SportShire is a cross between a light horse and a Shire. The preferred cross is with a Shire stallion on a light horse mare because the Shire is a fairly rare horse, with only about 3000 worldwide. These crosses usually make wonderful sporthorses.
