...I am a grandson of James Wilson Crubaugh and can supply rather complete info regarding his ancestors and descendants.

I consider it an astounding fact that his two wives were related in unusual manner: He was married first to Mary Jane Mozingo who died between 1880-1882 and then to Emma Bell Bowman - whose mother was Mary Ann Mozingo, born 1830. His two wives were DOUBLE second cousins: their respective grandfathers were Mozingo brothers (Joseph and James) and their grandmothers were Clemmons sisters (Mary and Mildred).

James Wilson Crubaugh fathered four children with Mary Jane Mozingo and seven with Emma Bell Bowman. My father was James and Emma's first born. Shortly after giving birth to her seventh child with James, Emma deserted him and without bothering to get a divorce, ran away and married someone else with whom she had three more children! ...

The 1880 McLean County, IL, census lists James as having been born in 1844.
James Crubaugh's two wives were DOUBLE second cousins. Their respective grandparents were Mozingo brothers who married Clemmons sisters. Note that both Bowman and Mozingo are "melungeon" names.

Notes for Mary Jane MOZINGO:

Due to mis-reading of unclear penmanship, Magings, rather than Mozingo, was recorded during the 1970's by M.F. "Jerry" Crubaugh as Mary Jane's maiden surname. "Crubaugh, The American Story" gives Mary Jane's maiden name as Hookersmith. This was because, at the time of her marriage to James Crubaugh, she was associated with the household of her step-father, Michael Hockersmith (read by the author as Hookersmith). The correct name, Mozingo, is on James and Mary Jane's 1865 Indiana wedding license.
