... 1st - under William Mozingo in the 1850 Choctaw County, Al census. His wife was
Catherine "Shirley". Catherine Shirley was the daughter of the Moses Shirley
who died in 1826 in Darlington County, SC. She was a sister to the Moses
Shirley that married Susan Mozingo.

2nd - Do you know what happened to Elinor Seger? I am looking for the wife of John
Shirley, brother to Catherine, Susan, and Moses Shirley. His wife was named
ELLY which could be short for Elinor. They would have married in the 1820's
in Darlington County, SC

3rd - In your listing of 1860 listing of Choctaw County Mozingo's, you left out
Catherine( Shirley ) Mozingo. House number 359 - Catharine Mozingo, age 56,
born in North Carolina - 1 child listed, Mary Ann, age 20, bo
Catherine Mozingo is listed 2 houses from Emanuel Herrin( Hearon), her brother
in law. Emanuel Hearon also married a daughter of the 1826 Moses Shirley
named Nancy.

So these Shirley's and Mozingo's moved together from Darlington County to Dallas County, Alabama and then to Washington/ Choctaw County. John Shirley with wife Elly- Moses Shirley with wife Susan Mozingo - Catherine Shirley with husband William Mozingo - and Nancy Shirley with husband Emanuel Hearon. George Mozingo was the father of William and Susan and maybe the gauardian of Elly?????

As far as I know, there was not a record of Moses and Susan's marriage.
1. George Mozingo is the right age to be the father of Susan Shirley
2. Both came from Darlington County, SC to Dallas County, AL to Washington/ Choctaw County, AL
3. George Mozingo, when he is old, is living with Moses Shirley and his wife Susan
4. Moses Shirley witnesses deeds for George Mozingo
5. George Mozingo signed the bond for JOHN SHIRLEY when John Shirley was administrator of the estate of Moses Shirley, Sr. in 1826 in Darlington County, SC
6. George Mozingo and William Mozingo also took inventory of estate of Moses Shirley in 1827.

Clearly, the preponderence of evidence is that Susan Shirley was the daughter of George Mozingo.

I will have to study William Mozingo some more. There is no question that he married Catherine Shirley, sister of Moses Shirley, John Shirley, Nancy Shirley, and Nathan Shirley. Also, a sister named Martha who married a Skinner and a brother named David Shirley. Most all of these people came to Dallas County, ALABAMA along with GEORGE MOZINGO. Because of this, I have always felt that this William Mozingo was a son of George. William's age does fit with the census for children of George and it certainly would be logical for George to name a son William. But, I am not a Mozingo expert!

It would be perfectly logical for JOHN SHIRLEY to marry one of the Segers daughters since they were living with George Mozingo. If two of Moses Shirley's children married Mozingo's, why not JOHN SHIRLEY marrying someone living with George Mozingo also. The ages for Elinor Segers appear reasonable and how many ELLY'S could there be??? ELLY is certainly a derivative of Elinor.

Thanks!
