I am researching my ancestor, John McKinney/McKenney. He married Hannah Massingo/Mozingo about 1777. They were residents of Culpeper County in 1784, when they separated. About 1785, one year after their separation, John went to Greenbrier Co. (now West Va.), taking another woman with him. They both died before 1805.

Hannah had children Hannah, Polly, John, Charles, and possibly Wilmoth. Her son John and Charles McKinney went to Shelby County Kentucky around 1800 and died there about 1805.

From what I have seen on this forum, Hannah was the daughter of Charles Mozingo of Culpeper. I should like to hear from others researching this family. We have documents relating to other members who married into this family, such as Shadrack Barnes....

McKinneys of Mercer/Shelby Co. KY

My 6th great grandmother was Hannah McKinney. she was born in Virginia in 1781 and married John Tarr (Torr) in Shelby Co. KY in 1804. Her father was John McKinney who died about 1807. His other children were Polly, Rachel, and Webster. Polly married Powell Skelton and died young. Rachel married a Stevens.
John McKinney's estate was linked to that of Charles. It is unclear whether Charles is John's son or brother.
Hannah's mother's name was also Hannah. I am aware that these McKinney's names are quite similar to those of the Mercer County, KY family of McKinneys. I should like to hear from someone who has information on the Mercer Co. family.
