SARALAND � William Bart Elmore was born in Butler, Alabama on Feb. 24, 1924 to Joe Zachary Elmore and Mary Jane Belle Shirley Elmore. He died on Dec. 12, 2005.
William had five brothers and five sisters. William is survived by two brothers, one sister and two sisters-in-law, Lindsey (Opal) Elmore, Carl (Jan) Elmore, Minnie Helen (James) Franklin, Yvonne Saucier Highsmith and Ruth Elmore.
He has gone to be with his beloved Mildred as well as his great-grandson, Sammy.
William and Mildred married in Sept. 1945. To this union came Mary (George) Walley, Deborah (Rodger) Huckabee, Melita Colson, Sandra Hayes, Bill (Anne) Elmore; his beloved 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
William was a member of Masonic Lodge #894, VFW Post #7320 and was a Life Member UPW1 Union #1421 as well as being a U.S. Navy Veteran who served in World War II.
He retired from Scott Paper in 1987 after a 24-year career. William worked on and around the water all of his life. He was also a former employee of the Jackson B. Hope Towing Company.
He was the grandson of James Elmore and Frances Ipella Skelton Elmore, and William Jackson Shirley and Elizabeth Indiana Landrum; and the great-grandson of Needham Elmore and Rachel Hay Elmore, Green Berry Skelton � a Confederate soldier who served with Co. F, 22nd Alabama Infantry � and Frances Morgan Skelton, Lemuel Jackson Shirley and Martha Jane Mazingo Shirley; and Zachariah Taylor Landrum and Mary Catherine Nelson Landrum.
A graveside service and interment was held Friday, December 16, 2005 at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Radney Funeral Home, of Saraland, was in charge of the arrangements.
