Todd R. Mozingo, 47, of Indianapolis, formerly of Iowa City, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 1997, in Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.

He was born Dec. 17, 1949, in Franklin, Ind. His father, Byron J. Mozingo, preceded him in death. His mother, Mary Jo Pruitt Mozingo, of Greenwood, Ind., survives.

Mozingo was a distinguished architect known for many preservation projects throughout the city of Indianapolis. He was a principal in the firm Mozingo Williamson Architects Inc. and was honored in October by the Central Indiana Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians with the 1997 Wilbur Peat Award for his contributions to architecture and historic preservation.

He received a bachelor of architecture degree from Miami University, Ohio, and a master of architectural history degree from the University of Virginia, where he was the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Fellow.

Mozingo began his professional career with the Division of Historic Preservation, Iowa State Historic Department. He joined the Iowa City firm of Wehner, Nowysz, Pattschull & Pfiffner, P.C., before moving to Indianapolis and the firm of James Associates Architects & Engineers Inc. He opened his own practice, Mozingo Associates Inc. in 1984, now Mozingo Williamson Architects. Mozingo also was an instructor in Butler University's Department of Interior Design.

He was involved in the restoration and adaptive use of several Indianapolis landmark buildings, including the Central Library, Real Silk Lofts, James Whitcomb Riley House, Clay and Emmons block, Brethard Building and Ferger block, as well as numerous private residences.

He won numerous awards from Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana, the City of Indianapolis and the Miami University Architecture School. He wrote frequently on architectural history for many publications.

He was a founding board member of Partners in Housing Development Corp. He was a member of the Morris-Butler House Museum Advisory Board and he chaired the Design and Development Committee for the Riley Area Revitalization Program Board.
