DARLINGTON Frank L. Mozingo Sr., age 66, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home today, April 18, at 3 p.m., with burial following in Grove Hill Cemetery.

Born in Florence County, Frank was the son of the late Sen. James P. ?Spot? Mozingo and the late Mary Catherine Lever. Mr. Mozingo graduated from Francis Marion University and served in the United States Air Force and the South Carolina National Guard. Frank was formerly employed by the Darlington City Water Department. He was a member of Vision Assembly.

Survivors include his former wife, Brenda W. Mozingo; two sons; Frank (Linda) Mozingo Jr. of Hartsville, John M. ?Marty? Mozingo of Myrtle Beach; two daughters, Chelsey R. Mozingo, Casey N. Mozingo, both of Darlington; four grandsons, Francis Lee Mozingo III, John Alston Mozingo, Neil Berberich, Adam Berberich; two brothers, Dr. James P. Mozingo IV of Darlington and T. Aladdin Mozingo of Florence.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brandy Mozingo and a brother, William Mozingo Sr.

The family will receive friends at the home of Alexander Mozingo, 117 Columbian St., Darlington.

Mozingo Dies After Sentencing

A former magistrate and candidate for state senator died this past week only hours after being sentenced to seven years in prison for Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor charges.

Frank Mozingo, 66, was sentenced at the Darlington County Courthouse to serve seven years in prison for the crime, but was then transported to the Florence County Detention Center. He apparently began complaining of chest pains that night and later died at a local hospital. An autopsy was planned.

Mozingo was well known in the Darlington County area, in part because he was the son of former long-time state senator James �Spot� Mozingo, and also because of positions held in local government. But in a special election in 2002, he also sought to recapture his father�s state senate position, initially taking on eventual winner and current Sen. Gerald Malloy, and also Ed Saleeby Jr. and Warren Arthur, for the vacancy left by the passing of Ed Saleeby Sr. Saleeby Sr. had defeated his father in 1972.

�As senator, I can continue my plan by making, changing, and amending laws. My concern is truth and my goal is justice,� Mozingo told the News and Press at the time. �I�m a common man with a simple plan. We can make a difference!�

Mozingo also served in the United States Air Force and the South Carolina National Guard. He was formerly employed by the Darlington City Water Department.

In 1999, Mozingo was appointed to the position of Darlington County Magistrate, replacing Winfred Flowers. He served seven months of the four-year term.

BRANDY MOZINGO
DARLINGTON � Funeral services for Elizabeth Brandon Brandy Mozingo, 31, will be held at 4 p.m. today, March 26, 2003 in Calvary Tabernacle officiated by the Rev. Jim Baker and the Rev. Allen Lynch. Interment will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Miss Mozingo died Monday, March 24, in a Darlington hospital. She was born in Florence County, a daughter of Frank L. and Brenda Wilkerson Mozingo. She was a graduate of Darlington Career Center and competed in the Special Olympics, winning a gold meda. She was a member of Calvary Tabernacle and Vision Assembly.

Surviving are her parents of Darlington; brothers, Frank L. (Linda) Mozingo and Marty Mozingo of Darlington; and two sisters, Chelsey Mozingo and Casey Mozingo, both of the home.

Miss Mozingo was preceded in death by grandparents, Senator Spot and Cady Mozingo and Paul and Alice Wilkerson.
