Obituary: Graveside services for Helen Segars Flowers Boyd, 84, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at Swift Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Ryan Goodroe will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 29, 2008 from 5:30 -7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, 104 E. Home Ave., Hartsville, SC 29550. Mrs. Boyd, widow of T. Earl Flowers and J. Stanley Boyd Sr., died Monday, July 28, 2008. Born in Hartsville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Sidney Lee and Belle Mozingo Segars, Sr. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and previously a member of Swift Creek Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Golden Fellowship, Jackie Hall Sunday School Class and was a supporter of home and foreign missions. She served as a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. She was a volunteer for Byerly Hospital and the Red Cross Blood Drive and a member of the Home and Garden Club. She previously was employed at Carolina Power and Light as a bookkeeper. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed world travel. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Julie Flowers of Hartsville, SC; daughter, Carole Flowers of Hartsville, SC; grandsons, Will Flowers and Daniel Flowers. She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas E. Flowers, Jr.; brother, Sid Segars, Jr.; sisters, Annie Lou Hafner, Belva Miller, Cele Segars, and Eleanor White.
