Deceased Name: Elder Lonnie Ray Mozingo, Sr.
November 19, 2005--On this pleasant Sabbath eve, our gracious Heavenly Father did mercifully issue the summons longed for most by one of His favored servants, Elder Lonnie Ray Mozingo, Sr. The earthly tabernacle of clay was at peace at the time of his crossing, as his earthly and church family kept faithful company with him at his home. Elder Mozingo served the Primitive Baptists in this part of God's vineyard for over 40 years. He was pastor of Ideal Primitive Baptist Church in Petal, Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church in New Orleans, and Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church in Pascagoula at the time of his death. During his ministry, he also served as pastor of Middleton Creek Church in Meadville, Mt. Hebron Church in Purvis, Bethlehem Church in Bay Springs, New Bethel Church in Tylertown, Gulf Coast Church in Gulfport, and churches in Amory and Memphis, TN. He traveled widely over the United States preaching the gospel.
Born in Forrest County, Mississippi, to O.R. and Lydia Mozingo, he was a life-long resident of the Hattiesburg area, settling with his family in the Oak Grove community in 1972. Elder Mozingo married the former Shirley Jo McGee on February 18, 1955. Their marriage was blessed with five natural children, Susan Mizell (Ronnie), Lonnie Mozingo, Jr. (Tammy), Tony Mozingo (Ashley), Andy Mozingo (Tina), and Becky Sanders (Hugh), and two adopted children in love, Elder David and Sherri Crawford. Elder Mozingo was especially thankful for his 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. Of those descendants, five are active in the ministry, and all are active in the Primitive Baptist faith.
Elder Mozingo is also survived by three brothers: J.C. Mozingo, J.P. Mozingo, and Roy Mozingo, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
His legacy is best displayed in the lives of those who would escort him to his earthly resting place in that they, like so many others, will live to carry on his greatest virtues. They are: his son-in-law, Ronnie Mizell; his brother Roy Mozingo; his nephew, Dr. Ron Mozingo; and his grandsons Will Mizell, Nathan Mozingo, Benjamin Mozingo, Robert Lee Mozingo, John Anthony Crawford, and Hughston Sanders. Finally, he was seen home by a host of ordained ministers and deacons of the Primitive Baptist faith that he loved so well, serving as honorary pall bearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Ideal Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
