TIMMONSVILLE ? Funeral services for Joseph Mozingo Wilkes, 85, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at Lake Swamp Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery, directed by Layton-Anderson Funeral Home of Florence.

Mr. Wilkes died Wednesday, Sept. 27. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Lilburn Olina and Myrtle Mozingo Wilkes. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Wilkes graduated from Texas A&M. He retired from Carolina Bank.

Surviving are his wife, Sarah Ham Wilkes, Timmonsville; two daughters, Kathy Poole (Alan) of Lamar, Gina Wilkes of Timmonsville; one brother, Thad Wilkes; one sister, Celeste Carraway, both of Timmonsville; three grandchildren, Miles, Josh and Caleb Poole; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Ham, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Martha Dorriety.
