James Mozingo first shows up in Craven County in 1826 when he married MaryWilliams. 1830 - James is listed in 20-30 age group along with a female, same age group, presumble the female is his wife.

1840 Census - James is listed age 30-40, one female 30-40.
1840 Census also shows a Pearce Mozingo (the Brices Creek area). Interesting James purchased a tract of land in 1831 on Brices Creek, using a house in New Bern he had purchased from a James Davis as collateral. The deed to this house I have been unable to locate, as yet, so do not know
when he first purchased it.

James and Mary had one son, Thomas A. Mozingo, b. September 16, 1839. It is interesting the 1840 Census did not show this child. Census probably takenin summer when Mary was pregnant with Thomas. I didn't get the date of the recording, but it sounds reasonable. James Mozingo (age 47) married a 2nd time on May 4, 1848 to Susan Smith (age 18), (father unconfirmed, but Cannady and Mary Smith look like strong possibilities). They had one child, Mary Frances Mozingo. James married a 3rd time to Eliza Smith age 20, in 1852. No children by her. He died in 1869.

Back to James & Pearce Mozingo (listed as Mazingo). Pearce Mazingo is listed as age between 50-60, along with one male 5-10; one male 10-15; 3 females 15-20 and one female 40-50. Who is this Pearce Mozingo? The Pearce in the 1840 Census would be about the right age to be his father. The Pearce Mozingo that went to Alabama was about the same age as James, from what I can see in the data presented on the net. Alabama Pearce was born about 1799, James was born 1801. So the one in the 1840 census is older. This would exclude Alabama Pearce. Any comments welcomed. Gloria

... for now, there are no known male Mozingo's to test in the James Mozingo in Craven Co. Thomas Mozingo had one son and one daughter to survive. The son had 2 daughters and the daughter married a Taylor, so that leaves out the Craven Co Mozingo's for DNA testing. I'm sorry we can not participate in the swabbing, but maybe something else will come up. Gloria Taylor

No, James and Thomas both married girls from Craven Co., 3 times each. Thomas's son married a Lewis girl from Pamlico Co. One of Frederick's (Thomas son) daughter's married a Corbett and lived in Chowan Co. Frederick's other daughter, I have not located yet. Don't know who she married. Gloria
