from "Pamlico County 100 years"
Rev. Thos. A. Mozingo became County Superintendent on June 5, 1893. He was a Baptist preacher and located in Stonewall. At the close of Mr. Mozingo's term of office we find the records reading thus: "Board of Education of Pamlico county met today in Bayboro. According to an act of the last Legislature this Board is abolished today and its duties devolve upon the Board of Commissioners of Pamlico County, therefore we adjourn, hoping that the educational interests of the County may prosper in spite of bad legislation."

SAWYER - Seeking info on ancestors/descendants of Micajah SAWYER (ca 1820 - abt 1879). Possibly b Hyde or Tyrrell Cos. Listed on 1850 census Hyde Co., Mattamuskeet District, then by 1860 has moved to Craven Co., living in area that became Pamlico. Wife was Frances (Fanny) SMITH, kids: Sarah A. (m Thomas MOZINGO), Doris (m Robert D. JONES), Thomas J. (m Louisiana JONES), Daniel, William Riley (m1 Eliz. HOLTON, m2 Ann Bryan RIGGS ALEXANDER--my line), Frederick (m Susan Herrington?), Jesse F., Caroline (m Wm. H. LEWIS, Jr), James Lanier (m Lizzie PARRIS), Martha A. (twin; m Chris. LUPTON), John Micajah (twin; m1 Julia Vendrick, m2 Armetta LANGLEY). Micajah's son Wm. Riley SAWYER had one son, Wm. Riley SAWYER, Jr. by first wf Eliz. HOLTON, three children by 2nd wf Ann Bryan (RIGGS) ALEXANDER: Katie (b 1881, m Shade Jackson fr Pitt Co), John Ephraim (1886-1962, m Bessie Harris of Pitt Co.), and Herbert Smith Sawyer (1889-1978). Family seems to have lived in the Oriental area, active members of Trent Free Will Baptist Church. Would appreciate hearing from anyone recognizing any of these folks. Am particularly eager to find father/ siblings of Micajah SAWYER..

YEs, the Thomas Mozingo mentioned above is our Rev. Thomas A. Mozingo, son of James who lived in Pamlico Co. Thomas also married 3 times and Sara Sawyer mentioned above is his 2nd wife and the mother of Frederick Mozingo. Thomas lived in Pamlico Co. Frederick moved to Fla for a short while, then returned to Gates County and died in 1951.

I talked with Claire back in 1997 and gave her the info I had at the time. She was the one who told me her father had in his papers at some time in her life the name Thomas Mozingo. Unfortunately she didn't pay much attention to it at the time. Her father has long since passed away and she regrets not paying more attention to his info. She noted Thomas name had an accent over his first name. For what that is worth. ...Gloria
