Samie: I want to give you the information I have. It may help you make some connections. I believe that Ivy Mozingo was my great, great grandfather. Ivy Mozingo b. in Lenoir County around 1807 m. Mithey ____ (I believe this name is correctly spelled Smithey. I base this on the fact that Adam Mozingo lists his parents as Ivy and Smithey on his marriage license in 1880 and Adam also named a daughter Smithey.)

In the 1860 census, Ivy Mozingo shows up living alone. In that same census, George 17 and Sally 14, show up in household of John Davis, Mary 13 in the home of Thomas Rouse, Susan Mozingo 9 shows up in the home of Mary Rives and Adam 8, shows up in the home of Geo Jones. I believe that Smithey died after or at the birth of Adam and the children were paced in the home of relatives or friends.

On 8/18/1863 (The year of Ivy's death) Guardian bonds were posted in Wayne County as follows:
Adam Mozingo - Guardian: Aaron Mozingo
John H. Mozingo - Guardian: John Mozingo
Sarah Mzoingo - Guardian: John Mozingo
Susan Mozingo - Guardian: John Mozingo
Mary Mozingo - Guardian: John Mozingo

In the 1870 census, Adam shows up in the home of John Mozingo, the same John who has a son named Jonathan. I believe that Jonathan to be the one who married Trecinda Pike.

My father was Boyd Screven Mozingo b. July 18, 1912 in Screven, Ga. (His father worked in Ga. for a short period of time was originally from NC.) My grandfather was Walter Mozingo, son of Adam Mozingo.
Adam Mozingo's family bible lists the following births:

... Adam Mozingo's marriage license was issued in Wayne County on May 21, 1880. The marriage was on May 23, 1880. He married Olive F. (Francie in family bible but referred to as Francis by decendants) Mitchell, age 18, daughter of Morris and Amanda Mitchell. I think there is a clue which may lead me to Ivy's father and siblings. So far, I've not been able to get the information. However, for the John Mozingo to take four of the five children in 1863, it would seem that he was a relative--possibly an uncle.
In the 1860 census, that John was listed as follows:
John age 47
Polly age 46
James age 16
Jonathan age 12
Mary age 10
In the 1870 census, that John was listed as follows:
John age 55 (slight difference in age)
Polly age 52 (slight difference in age)
Jonathan age 22 (age agrees)
Adam age 17
James Hicks age 17
Mary age 19

I think the James listed in Ivy's family in 1850 may be the same James listed in John's family in 1860. By 1870 he would have been about 26 and I believe he may the be James Mozingo listed in the 1870 census as married to Sarah E. with one child, Matidly E. age l.

What I want to do next is find who the John Mozingo was who became guardian of those children. I think I may find that he as a bother of Ivy. Do you have any information that would support this line of thinking? I tried to contact Gil Johnson who traces his lineage back to Jonathan and John Mozingo; however, he has not responded.
