MUSEUM MAILBAG
(Last Updated: 11 August 2004)
Welcome to the Museum Mailbag, formerly the “Your E-Mail” section. This is your chance to have your day about Mondos on the Internet, especially if you’re a New Zealand collector. On this page, I will post any useful Mondo information you may care to send me. Obviously, I am very keen to hear from other Mondo collectors in New Zealand, but am more than happy to post interesting info from overseas. I also don't mind posting ads for trade, but will probably put those on a separate page. The most recent messages will appear on this page, while older messages will go into the E-Mail Archive.
Not every e-mail which is sent to me will be posted here, but only those I feel would benefit other Mondo collectors in some way, such as those which have interesting information, or those where people discuss what they like and/or don’t like about Mondos. E-Mails concerning private trades between myself and another collector will not be broadcast here, you can be assured of that. So, if you have some Mondo info or opinions to share, get going an e-mail me! Looking forward to getting your Mondo mail!
The Mailbag has just received a very special e-mail from none other than one of the Mondo creators, Ted Blackall of Vizargo! Mr Blackall kindly gave me permission to publish the e-mail, so it is reproduced below for your reading pleasure. Certain points that I consider to be of particular importance have been highlighted in bold.
“Hi, A friend linked me to your terrific website. Just to add to your impressive body of info on Mondo, my family and I created designed and manufactured the Mondo collection, through our family design company, Vizargo [ www.vizargo.com ]. I can make no comment about your assessment of and assumptions re the past marketing of Mondo but I would like to inform you that we are making moves toward potential new host companies with extending and broadening the Mondo collection in mind [future history designs attached]. [Naturally the aliens are hideous otherwise they wouldn't be alien. They are intended to serve as a fun reference point to what we humans are not.] Attached are some illustrations from the new Mondo board game which we have created within our new joint venture company 'Via Mondo'. I was involved in the creation and design of the Yowie product [attached] but Vizargo had been working on the Mondo idea for many years previously, trying to find it's voice and shape. The intention is to demonstrate to people of all ages and nationalities, in an easily digestible way, that we are, but for the differences in our outer covering, essentially all the same. 'Mondo' finally took formation as you see it, as 55 mm tall figurines that are easy to purchase and distribute. www.mondocollectibles.com is created by www.bluehub.com which also our family company, producing new wave e-commerce programs and cyber techniques, based in New York City. The names of the characters on Mondo collectibles are what Vizargo originally intended them to be. These names, unlike some of the names featured in the marketing program of 2001 are all actual names of historic figures [where possible]. The descriptions on the site ['Mondo Map' attached] are as historically accurate as can be whilst remaining entertaining. These names and this info represent a window through to an informative, enlightening and accurate study of our past as a species. It is empowerment for the collector if you will, rather than just aberrant exploitation. Everything about the design of the Mondos [costume specifics, differences and facial/physical parity] is intentional and carefully conceived, designed and executed. We at Vizargo have observed that the idea works as it was meant to but it has thus far been unable to find a resonant or fully effective commercial outlet [which every idea needs in the modern world]. I felt I had to write and congratulate you on your website and perceptive understanding of the Mondo concept and journey, whilst letting you know that efforts are being made as I write to take it's message of empathy and mutual understanding to all the people on Mondo. Yours faithfully. Ted Blackall.
I must say that I felt quite honoured to receive such an e-mail, and would like to publicly thank Mr Blackall for taking the time to write to me and explain in greater detail what Mondos are all about. I would also like to thank him for kindly letting me have some pictures of sketches for potential new Mondo series. You’ll find these in the Reference Lists section.
If you have any opinions or information to share about Mondos, please send me an e-mail. The more information the merrier!
