Our Tribute to Steve...

Tall, dark, the epitome of the-boy-next-door, Steve Hewitt is what adds a touch of realism into the band that is Placebo. His passion and charisma on his drums are the heartbeat, the soul, the essence of Placebo. Without Steve, Stefan's bass would simply be an instrument, and without Steve, Brian's voice would simply be one lost in a crowd.

Placebo has come an extremely long way since Steve took the position from Robert, the band's former drummer. Steve is awesome when it comes to erratic, pulsating rhythms, rhythms that get the heart to pounding and the body to moving. I think without Steve, no matter how effeminate Brian is or how intense Stefan is, there would be no drive behind Placebo's music or lyrics.

I honestly believe Steve is the grounding force in Placebo. Granted, I haven't read much on the band, while Charitie has (but she's not here right now, so I'm improvising), but that is the over-all impression I get from him. Charitie believes that he only keeps the band in the outermost bands of the stratosphere, but we both agree on the same thing: Steve is the laid-back, I-don't-care, look-you-don't-impress-me type of person that is just incredible to have around. He has a breath-taking smile, complete with dimples, which I regret that you cannot see in this picture, that just makes you want to melt, makes you go weak at the knees.

Everyone knows that Steve is a father, but probably very few people realize just how important being a dad is to him. He said in an interview that he wanted to be known as "a good dad". There is no doubt in my mind that Steve has already reached that level. Although, I must say, I quite envy his little girl. The kid is bound to have an interesting life with two "uncles" like Brian and Stefan.

Steve is a wonderful guy, and he should never be overlooked when Placebo is taken into consideration. He's more than just the drummer; he's the foundation.
