AFI
originally formed in mid '91in the city of Ukiah, Ca. The original
members were
Davey, Mark, Vick and Adam. Vick dropped out of the band
about 8 months later, and Geoff then took over playing bass. They
had released a split album with Loose Change and an EP entitled Behind
The Times. Shortly after, Davey, Mark, and Adam graduated
highschool, so the band broke up. Davey moved to Berkeley to go to
college, Adam Went to Santa Cruz, Mark went down to Southern California,
and Geoff went to New Jersey to play for Blanks 77. AFI then
decided to play a reunion show on December 22, 1992. Everybody
told them how good they were, and they all stopped school and decided to
work with the band full time. Their first tour was with the
Swingin' Udders, which they enjoyed very much. From then on, they
have become an extremely good and influential punk/hardcore band.
Before the recording of Shut Your Mouth And Open Your Eyes, AFI's third
full length album, Geoff quit the band. Hunter Burgan played bass
on the album, and then became the new bassist for AFI. In
the fall of '98, Mark dropped out of the band. Jade Puget, who
sang backing vocals on Shut Your Mouth And Open Your Eyes, took over as
the guitarist for the band. Black Sails in the Sunset was released
in 1999, as well as the All Hallows EP. They have just
released their 5th full length album, entitled The Art of Drowning,
which brings them further into the dark side of music.
