Chapter 3

Brian fell to his knees beside Leighanne. Her lifeless body was lying on the floor to the right of the tub.

"Baby, please wake up!" Brian shrieked shaking her body in attempt to wake her up. The other 4 guys just stood there terrified, and didn't know what to do.

"WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE CALL 911"? Brian yelled with tears in his eyes. When no one replied or did anything he got furious and pulled out his cellphone from his pocket and threw it at their feet.

"JUST DIAL THE FUCKING 911 FOR CHRIST SAKE!!!"

Howie first snapped back to reality and reluctantly picked it up from the floor and dialed the three-figured number. He walked out of the room to get some privacy, and since it was hard to hear the operator with Brian yelling in the background.

"911 Emergency central, how may I help you?"

"Umm... my friend's fiancé must of fell in the bathroom against something hard, I think she's unconscious".

"Alright, when did this happen?"

"Um, about 5 minutes ago. Please hurry, she's pregnant".

"Ok, we'll send people over there as soon as possible. Try to talk to her, and bring her back to consciousness if possible. Hang in there, we'll be right there".

Howie hung up, and slowly walked back into the bathroom. Brian was sitting on the floor with his precious love in his arms, rocking back and forth, silently talking to her, and caressing her cheek. Nick was sitting behind his best friend trying to comfort him. They all looked up at Howie as he entered the room.

"Well?" Brian asked.

"They'll be here any minute" Howie said. Brian gave him a thankful look.

Right then there was a knocking on the frontdoor. Kevin offered to answer it. He hurried down the steps, and ran towards the door. He opened it up to find 3 paramedics waiting outside.

"Where's the injured girl?" a man around his 40's asked.

Kevin pointed towards the staircase, "She's upstairs in the bathroom".

"Thank you" the same man answered, and he and his 2 colleagues ran past Kevin, through the hallway and up the stairs. Kevin soon followed their lead. He saw the paramedics hook Leighanne up on several things and slowly put her on a stretcher. It wasn't until then that Kevin saw the pool of blood on the floor where Leighanne had been lying.

'This is more serious than I thought' he thought to himself. 'I wonder how Brian is coping?'. He looked over at Brian who was holding Leigh's hand tears silently running down his cheeks. He walked over to Brian and put his hand on his shoulder giving him comforting pat.

"Can I go with her?" Brian asked a woman, who was around 35.

"Sure", she said smiling. "But there's only room for 1 person in the ambulance" she said looking at the 5 of them.

"That's fine" Kevin said. "Brian here, goes with you, and we'll drive our own cars".

The paramedics carefully carried the stretcher down the stairs and walked out through the front door. Brian followed them, not letting go of Leighanne's hand. They placed her in the ambulance, and Brian jumped up taking place beside the stretcher. One of the paramedics, the woman took a seat next to Brian and the other two up front. The driver started the engine and soon the loud sound of sirens filled the air as the large vehicle rushed down the street, leaving 4 concerned guys behind.

"Where are you girl?"

Destiny got snapped back to reality. "What?"

"You were off somewhere in your own little world, and I had to tell you four times that your workday is over" her workmate Carley pointed out.

"Oh sorry". Destiney smiled embarrassed at her friend. "I was just gathering my thoughts".

Carley teased her friend. "Sure you were".

"Oh just shut up". Destiny tried to be serious but soon would burst out in fits of laughter.

"Are you coming?" Carley called from the door to StarBucks where the two girls had been working for almost a year now. Destiny got her purse, and checked that everything was settled and secured.

"Yeah hang on". She walked slowly to the door looking around. When she had made sure everything was alright she stepped out of the famous coffee shop. Carley was waiting for her in the street.

"Did you notice who was here today?" Carley asked her friend as they made their way down the familiar mainstreet.

"Um... no... I don't think so. Someone we know?" Destiny asked curiously.

"Nope. Nick Carter!" Carley said excited.

Destiney looked at her friend with nothing but confusion written on her face. "Nick who?".

Carley's mouth dropped. "Please don't tell me you don't know who THE Nick Carter is?"

"I don't. Did I miss something here?"

"Well, yeah hello?! Where have you been for the past 6 months? He's a member of the Backstreet Boys, you know that new group of 5 guys from Florida".

Destiny shrugged her shoulders. "Oh" was all she said.

"You're not for real" Carley chuckled. "You've got to stop burying your head in those books of yours and see the real world".

"The books are my world" Destiny said. "And I intend keeping it that way".

"Whatever girl".

"Anyways, this costumer asked me out on a date today" Destiny said grinning from ear to ear.

"Ooo, really? Is he good-looking?"

"Yeah. He's got really beautiful eyes. They're like babyblue, and he's got blonde hair, but he wore a cap so I couldn't tell how long it was. He's pretty tall too, probably like 6'2 or something".

"Dude that sounds just like Nick Carter" Carley said getting excited.

"Speaking of Nick Carter, he did say his name was Nick..."

"OH MY GOD, do you know what this means?" Carley screamed in her best friend's ear. "You're going on a date with a Backstreet Boy!". People around them were giving them funny looks.

"No... I'm going on a date with Nick. Nothing else".

"You're probably the luckiest girl in the world right now"

Destiny was getting somewhat annoyed by Carley's whining about him being so special. "Whatever" she said.

"Can't this thing drive any faster?" Kevin cried panicked.

"Gee Kev, we're driving way past the speed limit already" Howie tried hard not to laugh at his friend. It was difficult concentrating on the road with Kevin whining like a baby. "We'll get there, don't worry".

Kevin joined Howie in his car, while Nick went with AJ. Lucky for them the hospital was only a few blocks down.

"What do you think happened there Kev?" Howie asked, not turning his head away from the traffic.

"I don't know man. But that's my cousin's fiancé and she's expecting his baby and I don't know what he'll do if anything happens to either one of them, so we'd better get there NOW and be at his side and support him all the way" Kevin said looking out through the window.

All Howie could do was nod. It all had happen so suddenly, and it was still some kind of shock to the fact that they didn't really know what had happened to Leighanne. They were all very fond of her and thought that she was the best thing that ever happened to Brian. She was the only girl that ever fell in love with him for whom he is, not for what he does.

They neared the hospital area and soon turned into the huge parkinglot.

"There's an empty space over there D" Kevin said pointing to the right. Howie drove slowly and parked the car with ease. The two men stepped out of the purple corvette and ran up to the main entrance. As soon as they entered the huge building they walked up to a desk with a dark skinned woman of about 35 behind. She looked up to them as they approached.

"How may I help you?" she smiled at them.

Kevin spoke up. "Um... we're here to see Leighanne Wallace, I believe she was brought in just recently"

"OK, let me see" she said searching through the computer systems. "I can't find her here, but there was a young woman brought in just a few minutes ago. They took her up to the third floor. There's a waiting room just to the right once you step out of the elevator, you could wait there".

"Thank you so much" Kevin said as they both took off running toward the elevators. They stepped inside the center elevator and pushed the button for the third floor.

"Do you think that young woman she told us about is Leighanne?" Howie asked once standing in the elevator.

"I don't know man" Kevin said with sadness in his eyes. "I really don't know"

The elevator reached the third floor and the two famous singers stepped out and walked to the right. Surely there was a waiting room, just as the nursed had told them, and they found their bandmates, AJ, Nick and Brian sitting there. As soon as they walked in, Brian looked up and rushed over to Kevin.

"Kevin, thank god you're here!" he exclaimed while embracing his older cousin.

"Chill cuz, how is she?" Kevin said still embracing Brian.

"We don't know yet, the doctors haven't told me anything", Brian said with tears in his eyes. Both Kevin and Brian were very emotional and would easily cry for anything and everything.

They let go of the hug and went back to sit with the others.

"Gee, how fast did you drive?" Howie asked somewhat amused.

Nick pointed at AJ "Howie... AJ was driving, that explains everything". The tension lightened up a bit, and they all laughed a little. AJ put on an innosence look on his face, and Nick punched him in the head.

"What the heck dude" AJ chuckled. Instead of just forgetting about the whole thing, AJ put his arm around Nick's neck and pretended to wring it off.

"Ok, kids kids, we're at the hospital here. Please act normal for a change" Kevin said, being the father-figure he is. The whole time, Brian would just sit there, and stare into outer space. Kevin noticed this and sat down next to him.

"You ok, cuz?" he asked worried.

"I don't know" Brian said. "I don't even know what happened man. I'm just scared it's something serious".

"I know. Trust me, we are too. But you know that we're here to support you, all the way". Brian gave him a thankful look.

In that very moment a male doctor, who looked about being around 45 years old walked into the room, holding a chart.

"Are you all here for miss Wallace?" he asked sweeping his eyes over the bunch of guys.

Brian stood up. "Yes we are, may I go see her, please?" he desperatly asked.

"Well, we need to speek to mr Littrell private for a couple of minutes, then you all can go see her, ok?".

Brian took this as a serious sign, and solemnly followed the doctor to his office. The other guys exchanged glances. They didn't know what to believe.

*****

"Please sit down" the doctor gestured towards the chair in front of his desk.

Brian took a seat and was waiting for the verdict.

"Well... it seems like miss Wallace hit something hard against her stomach, which I'm afraid caused her internal bleeding. However it's not fatal, and there's no danger for her life at all. She'll be able to go on living with this injury. The side affects are heavy headaches every once in awhile, and she may feel more tired than usual, but that's just normal, so no need to worry. She'll be just fine".

Brian looked relieved. Suddenly he realized the doctor had said nothing about the baby. He started panicking, and was too afraid of asking the question. But he had to know. Finally he had enough guts to ask him.

"What... what about th-the baby?" he asked nervous. Afraid of the answer.

The doctor looked down in his papers and sighed. This was the worst part of being a doctor, telling news like this. Especially with a child involved. He looked into Brian's eyes and finally spoke.

"Well..."
