Chapter 4

"It appears as though the womb was injured, which unfortunately affected the fetus".

Brian couldn't move or speak. A sole tear ran down his cheek but he soon wiped it off. He knew it. They had lost what could have become their most precious gift, what he had longed for his whole life. He just wanted to cry but couldn't. He was paralyzed of grief, shock and pain.

"There's a possibility that the baby will be born with braindamage" the doctor concluded.

Brian suddenly snapped back to reality. "The baby? He said the baby. Then it's alive. Oh thank God" he thought overjoyed.

"So... so the baby is alive?" Brian asked.

"It's very much alive. It's too early to tell whether the brain activity was damaged or not".

"H-how... big is the chance...?" Brian asked very scared.

"About 90% I'm afraid"

Brian nodded slowly. "What will happen if there is?"

"The child will most likely never walk, maybe not even speak, and in most cases these children never live more than 1 or 2 years of their lives, if that. I'm so very sorry mr Littrell".

Brian sat quiet. Let it all sink in. This was all a nightmare, and he just wanted to wake up. This couldn't be happening to him. He had visited alot of Children's hospitals over the years with the guys, and he remembered how sorry he felt for the parents who had to go through all that. Now it was about to happen to him.

"Mr Littrell, are you alright?" the doctor asked concerned. All Brian could do was shake his head no.

"I just want to see Leighanne" he said in tears.

"Alright. Why don't you come with me?" the doctor said and arose from his armchair. Brian followed his actions and walked behind him out through the door. The two of them walked down a hallway with bright white walls. Brian thought back of the time when he was a kid and had to go in for surgery which was almost fatal. Since then he had always had a fear for hospitals.

"Here it is" they stopped outside room no 313.

"Does she know?" Brian asked nervous.

"Yes, she knows, and she didn't take it too well, so please be gentle with her".

The doctor opened the door and let Brian in.

He slowly approached the bed which held his precious love. She was sleeping peacefully with her hands across her stomach. Brian took a seat next to the bed, and put her hand in his. Her other hand was hooked up to IV's. Suddenly her eyes fluttered and she slowly awoke.

"Hey baby" she said sleepily.

Brian put his index finger on her lips. "Shh, don't try to talk. You need some rest".
Leighanne kissed the top of his finger while a tear ran down her cheek.

"Brian, did you hear what's wrong with our baby?"

"Yes I heard. But they're not 100% positive".

"But... what if?"

"Then we'll be there for eachother, AND our baby! I love you" Brian said kissing her on the lips gently.

"I love you too" she kissed him back. They released, clasped their hands and did they only thing that was in their power; praying.

One day had passed since the accident. The doctors weren't sure whether to release Leighanne yet, and Brian stayed at the hospital, not leaving her side. AJ, Howie, Kevin and Nick wanted to give them some privacy, and they all went home, but visited regulary. Nick prepeared himself for his date with Destiny. He had planned on taking her to the movies. Nothing too serious, yet could be romantic depending on what film they saw. He searched through his closet trying to find something to wear.

"Where's my favorite Buccaneers™ jersey?" he said to himself as he threw garment after garment out of his huge walk-in closet. "Ah, found it!" he exclaimed delighted. He put it on, and watched his reflection in the mirror. "This looks ok" he said outloud. "But something's missing" he said. Around his neck he hung his favorite piece of jewelery; a golden pirate ship. He ruffled his hair a bit, and put on a white Nike™ cap backwards. Nick went downstairs and grabbed the carkeys.

"Mom!" he yelled. His mother came out into the hall.

"Yes honey, what is it?"

"I'm going out. I don't know when I'll be back, but don't stay up waiting for me, ok?"

"I won't. May I ask with whom you're going?" she asked curious.

"Mom! Just some girl I met the other day".

His mother was about to say something, when approached her and kissed her cheek.

"Bye mom". And he left a confused and curious mother behind.

Nick jumped into his green Durango and took off towards Destiny's.

"Oh my god, what am I going to wear?" Destiny ran around her room like crazy, trying to find a suitable outfit to wear. "I've got no clothes!" she said in panic, as she overlooked her wardrobe of over 100 different outfits. She finally decided on her favorite pair of blue baggy pants, and a white tank top. She put her hair in a ponytail, and put the last of her makeup on. That's when the doorbell rang, and scared her half to death, because she didn't expect it.

"I'll get it" she yelled, and flew down the stairs, but calmed down just in time, to open the door. She didn't want to look too excited. Her hands fumbled with the door knob, and she slowly opened the door to reveal the young teen heartthrob known as Nick Carter. She looked up into his babyblue eyes, and smiled shyly.

"Hi" she said.

"Hey. Are you ready?"

"Yeah, I'm just going to tell mom, ok?" Destiny said calling for her mom. "MOM? MOM I'm going out. I'll be back later"

"Ok, have fun honey" they heard her mother calling from somewhere inside the house.

"Let's go" Destiny said smiling towards the tall, handsome young man standing next to her.

"After you madame" he said acting like a true gentleman. Destiny giggled and walked outside to his car. He opened the car door for her, and waited for her to take a seat, then he carefully closed it.

"So... where are we going? Or is that a secret?" she asked while in the car.

"I was thinking of the movies. How does that sound?" he asked nervous.

"Great" she said smiling. She could tell he was just as nervous as she was. They kept driving for a while downtown until they found a parking garage, near the movie theater. Nick parkes his car, and they walked hand in hand to the theater.

"I know we just met, but I really like him alot" Destiny thought to herself. "I never felt like this before, but I like it. But why would he feel the same? I'm just an other girl, among many in this world". Little did she know what Nick was thinking in that very moment.

"Wow, she's so pretty. She's the prettiest girl I've ever seen in my entire life. Although I have only known her for 24 hours, I know that I like her alot. If only she would feel the same..." Nick thought while looking at her.

They entered the movies, and scanned the lists for what movies were running.

"What do you want to see?" Nick asked.

"Um... oh I'd love to see 'The Horse Whisperer', is that alright with you?" she said uncertain.

"Anything for you" he responded smiling. "And don't worry, it's on me"

"Are you sure?" she asked.

"Yup I am, now let's go buy those tickets".

They walked up to the cashier's office.

"Hi, may I help you?" the girl behind the desk said.

"Hi. We need 2 tickets for 'The Horse Whisperer' please" Nick said.

The girl searched through her computer. "That'll be $12.50 please" she said. Nick handed her the money, and he got the tickets in return.

Since they still had a few minutes until the movie was starting Destiny decided to use the ladiesroom. She walked inside, and found an empty booth. While being in there she heard some girls talking.

"Did you see who's here?" one girl said.

"No. Who?" the other one said.

"Nick Carter, with some stupid chic. Oh my god, he's SO hot. I wish he had the hots for me".

"Yeah, he's a cutie. I wonder who that chic is. Do you think it's his girlfriend?"

"Nah. I know Nick's taste for women. He doesn't date ugly, fat, immature teenyboppers like her. She's probably just a friend".

"She'd better be".

And with that they both left. Destiny felt her heart sink. She knew she shouldn't be taking them seriously, but she was hurt big time. A few tears trickled down her cheek. "Why can't they just leave him alone?" she thought angry. She finished up, washed her hands and went out back to Nick. As she approached him he could tell she was upset over something.

"Hey, anything wrong?" he asked concerned.

"No, I'm fine". When Nick still looked worried, she added "Really, I'm fine. Now let's go see that movie already!". She hadn't fully convinced him, but Nick knew whatever it was, she wasn't going to tell him anytime soon.

They went into the house, and searched for their seats. As they sat down, the lights went off and the film started. The screen showed a horse galloping through the snow. Beautiful music was playing. This was the type of movie Destiny loved. She knew that she would probably start crying any minute. Destiny felt her eyes filling with water as the movie went on. She cried very easily. Nick noticed this and held her hand. Somehow she felt safe, sitting there in the dark, and holding hands with him.

"Aww, don't cry" he whispered.

"This is just too sad. Imagine something like that happen to you" she whispered sobbing.

He chuckled. "You are so cute when you are crying, you know that?"

"Oh shut up" she punched him playfully in the side.

Nick let her cry alone for awhile. He hated to admit it, since it was a chicflick, but he really enjoyed the movie.

Without even noticing it, Destiny leaned her head on his shoulder. He looked down, and smiled.

"It feels so good, feeling her body so close to mine" he thought.

"He's so warm. I wish I could stay in this position forever" she thought. She looked up at him, and noticed that he was looking down at her. Their eyes locked, and they just sat there, gazing at eachother for several minutes. Without even thinking their heads approached slowly. They closed their eyes and shared a long passionate kiss.
