Lady Barbara
How it might have been . . . I was
seated in my study--fortunate, I know, for a
woman to have her own study, but my father was
dead, my brothers gone, and there was no other use
for it. I felt a little melancholy--who can say why--
and so pulled from
my library shelves a book that always consoled me,
Sense and Sensibility. Bless Jane Austen!
