The Satisfaction of Sewing
Growing up, I envied my sister for her sewing skill, but never
had the nerve to ask if she would teach me. Many
years would pass before I tried to learn, and I found that
I envied my sister all the more. This was hard and delicate work!
It took me a year to complete this first sewing project, working on
it in what spare time I could muster. It was an exercise in
patience--the waistband was downright devilish and I couldn't
have ever figured it out without the assistance of my spouse.
But it was a thrill of a lifetime when at last the skirt was ready to
try on, and I slipped it over my hips and zipped it in back.
A satisfaction to be savored. Who knows when I'll have the time
for another project, but I'd like to make vests.
