Beatles On Holiday

Chapter 5

(Continued)

A voice yelled, "Oh, God, no!"

I was caught up in a set of strong male arms, but it was too late to prevent me from falling over the edge. The two of us rolled over and over down the slope toward he creekbed, afraid to let go of each other. When we had reached to bottom of the slope and had landed, rumpled but safely in the sandy creekbed, I looked to see who it was that had made this tumble with me. I did not recognize the very handsome dark haired man with captivating blue-gray eyes that was still holding me tightly in his arms, and asking me if I was alright.

I said, "Yes, I'm o.k., I think."

Rolling off of me and releasing me from his arms, he questioned, "Are you sure? You took quiet a spill there." His eyes were filled with such intense concern it was touching.

"Yeah, I'm sure." I said as I tried getting up, then groaned, "Ouch!" While sitting up rubbing my back.

"Oh no, you did get hurt, did I hurt you?" he looked worried now.

"No, no, it wasn't you, you probably cushioned me from getting all beat up on the rocks and debris on the way down, thank you." I said, still rubbing my back.

"Then what is wrong with your back, can I do anythng to help you?"

"I'm just a bit sore, I think I popped my back out or something, I guess I'll have to go to the doctor and get it popped back in, but I'll be o.k., so you can stop looking at me like I'm going to die," I grinned trying to reassure him.

"Well, if you'll allow it, I can pop your back for you and save you a doctor bill."

"Really?"

He nodded and said, "Yeah"

"Well, uh, o.k., how do you do it, you won't hurt me will you?"

"No, I wouldn't dare, now just get up on your feet and try hard to relax."

He got up first and then gave me a hand up.

"Taking his hand, I said, "Oh, thank you, that's very gentlemanly of you."

"I'll not have you hurt yourself anymore then you already are."

Getting in a standing position I said, "Thank you, you are very kind, now what do I do?"

He was facing me as he answered, "Nothing but relax, while I lock my arms around you like this and I squeeze..."

I got scared and thought, what the heck is he doing? My body stiffened and I tried to get away. Panicking I blurted out, "Stop, you're going to hurt me, what are you doing?!"

He spoke softly in a soothing tone saying, "Shh, now it's o.k. I'm not going to hurt you, I'm sorry, I should of explained what I was going to do first," He just held me there and was gently massaging my tightened back muscles as he continued softly saying,"Now just continue to relax,it won't hurt if you relax, I'm just going to squeeze you like in a bear hug and then lift you a bit off the ground, and that should do it, do you want me to continue or not?"

His voice was so soothing and his hands were finding every tense muscle and kneading them until they yielded into relaxation, I was so relaxed I felt like modeling clay in a sculpters hands. No one had ever touched me like that and it felt odd that I was allowing a total stranger to have so much control over my senses. I felt totally at ease with him, it was like I'd known him forever and somehow I felt like I could trust him completely, it didn't feel strange to be in his arms either, it was like I was finally where I belonged.

I was blissed out and answered quite slowly, "Yes, I'm o.k. now, just be gentle."

"I'm always gentle, now take a deep breath."

As I inhaled, he lifted me off the ground like I was a small child, effortlessly and ever so gently, with just enough pressure that I heard and felt a slight pop, pop and then he tenderly set me back on the ground like it was a cloud.

Holding me and massaging my back again he asked, "Did that help, then?"

Listening more closely now to his voice I noticed that he had a british accent. I don't know why I hadn't paid attention to it earlier, unless I was concentating more on my pain then his voice. I was very intrigued by him.

I gratefully answered, "Yes, it did, wow, I feel so much better. Who are you and how did you learn all that?"

"I'm a Chiropractor and Massage Therapist, I'm glad I could help." He released me and stood back to look at me and asked, "So, you've been out for a ride, have you?"

Just then I remembered I was supposed to be looking for George and I began to look around for Velvet.

"Yes, I was with four friends and two of us rode over here being silly, having a chase and I ended up where you found me, having a rest, until I heard the tree branch snap behind me."

"That was me, I was out for a look 'round my new place and then I startled you and I saw you start to fall and I ran as fast as I could to catch you, but I was too late, I'm so sorry."

"Oh, that's o.k. no permenent damage was done."

"Where's your horse?"

"I don't know, he was right behind me grazing, before I fell, I guess he got spooked and ran away."

Just then I spotted John, at the top of the slope, on Buddy, with Velvet beside him.

I called out to John, "Hey, John, you found Velvet, how'd you know where I was?"

"I didn't, it would seem though that your horse here was a bit worried about you," John called down to me.

"Velvet, was worried about me?" I questioned,   "How could you tell?"

"Well, he came charging out the woods and I happened to be riding this way to see where you and George had taken off to, and Velvet here, nearly ran into us, when I got hold of his reins, he turned around and lead me here, just like Lassie."

"Well, what a good boy you are, I'll have to give you an extra special treat when we get back to the barn."

"Mmmm, I'll be looking forward to that!" John said with a seductive yet cheeky grin.

"Not you, silly, Velvet!"

"Oh, darn it!" John said with disappointment.

I looked to the far right of John and saw George just silently watching us, I wondered how long he'd been there and what he was thinking, he looked rather sad and I began to think he was misinterpreting what he might of seen take place between this delightful stranger and I.

"Oh, hello, George I see you found me, I guess that makes you the winner of our little game of horseback hide and seek, how long have you been up there George?" I asked trying to sound lighthearted.

George just slowly turned his horse around and walked away, and muttered out, "Long enough to see why you ditched me."

The kind stranger leaned close to my ear and whispered, "Is that John Lennon and George Harrison of the Beatles, I don't have me glasses on, but it sure sounds like them, are they your friends that you were riding with?"

Reluctantly I said, "Yes, but you must swear to God that you won't tell another living soul that they are here, o.k.?

" Scout's honour I won't breathe a word, wow, how cool, the Beatles!"

Looking at how sad George was made my heart just sank to the ground, I had just hurt George and I hadn't even done anything wrong, I felt that I must go after him and explain that what ever he saw wasn't what he thought it was. I tried to scramble up the slope to get to Velvet and take off after George, but it was steep and I just kept sliding back down. Then the kind stranger got ahead of me and gave me his hand and helped me up the hill, I thanked him for his kindness, but in my rush I forgot to even ask him what was his name.

As I got to John I said, "Oh, John, hurry give me Velvet's reins I've got to go and catch George, I think he's got the wrong idea about what happened down there."

John said, "Well, you can't blame him for being hurt, but don't go after him just yet, give him time, he won't listen to you now, wait until he comes back to the barn on his own, he needs to be alone for awhile"

"No John, he's got to know the truth," I yelled next to tears as I yanked Velvet's reins out of his hands and l jumped on Velvet's back and sped away after George, leaving John with the kind stranger, I thought maybe John would get his name.

I rode poor Velvet as fast as his agile legs would run, crashing through the woods at breakneck speed. I finally did catch up with George, but the setting was less the ideal for a heart to heart talk for what I found was horrifying! George's horse had stepped into a huge underground yellow jackets nest, and he was covered with them, Jasper had taken off and George was screaming in pain. I backed Velvet away quickly and yelled at George to pull off his shirt and jump into the nearby creek. He followed my orders and dove in. The bees eventually dissappated and I told him it was safe to come out. He stood up weakly and then collapsed fainting face first in the chilly waters. I screamed for John and anybody else who was in earshot to help me get George out. I jumped into the water myself, but being a poor swimmer I was of little good to him, the only thing keeping him from floating downstream was his shirt had gotten hung up on a fallen tree, but he was face down in the water and I knew he must be going into anphilactic shock, caused by all the stings he received! Terror gripped my heart as I screamed and cried for help!
