This is my story of when I met Boyzone. It was May 7th 1999 and I was at the By Request concert in Glasgow SECC and there I was sitting during the interval waiting for Boyzone, every so often a clip of them would come up on the screen and the SECC was then screamed down, when I noticed none other than Barrie Knight, Boyzone's very own bodyguard walking about in the audience.
I got the shock of my life when he pointed towards me and the two girls sitting next to me and said to the man he was with "those three". He called us over and we went over to him and he told us he'd be back later to get us because we were taking part in the show. I was thrilled, I just couldn't beleive it! Barrie came back to get us, while Boyzone were singing and we made our way to the front and then behind the stage where we were given nametags and a lady took our bags. Barrie told me I was to go on first with Stephen as I was shortest. A minute later a dancer came and got me, she took my hand and led me down the steps and onto the stage and over to Stephen. Stephen took my hand and asked my name and where I came from.
He then took me over to the "Requestiliser" button which he told me to press after the countdown, I did and it landed on "Coming Home Now" which Stephen said they would sing for me after he took me to my stool. While they were singing Shane kept turning round asking if I was okay or if I was nervous, and he came over and hugged me. He sat next to me for a while then went back to his place. The next girl came on and Mikey sang his solo for her and for the third girl they sang "Love Me For A Reason". While they were singing this Shane came behind me and pulled on my hair and laughed. When they had finished their songs Shane took us to the middle of the stage and got everyone to clap us then we got on a turntable and Mikey nodded at me and Keith asked if I'd been nervous. Ronan stayed on to sing his solo "When You Say Nothing At All" and we went back to our seats, and the show continued! I had a great night and wouldn't stop talking on the 3 hour bus journey home, and when I got to my house I said to my parents you'll never guess what happened and my mum said you were picked to go on stege with Boyzone? It turned out I had lost my mobile phone backstage and it had been found by one of the production team and my dad had phoned to find out when I'd been home and she explained everything to him. In the end I did get my phone back and I couldn't beleive it when a registered post envelope arrived with a label saying from Boyzone, I know it had nothing to do with them but no one else need know!
