“Ang, tell me again why we’re here?” Katelin Taylor asked her best friend Angela Perera as they walked into the dance studio at 34th and Broadway.
“Because we’re going to audition.” Ang answered.
Katelin stopped at the bottom of the stairs and put her hands on her hips. “Auditioning for what?”
“To be dancers for this new tour that’s this summer.” Ang grabbed her best friend’s hand and dragged her up the stairs.
“What tour?” Kate asked.
“You know,” Ang stopped for a second and scratched her head. “I’m not really sure. My old dance instructor back in Cali called me up the other day and she told me to come down here today.”
Katelin was skeptical. “I don’t know about this, Ang.”
“Come on!” Ang grabbed her hand again and pulled her through the door. The two friends walked through the door and stood in awe at the amount of people there. Suddenly, Ang spotted a familiar face. “FATIMA!”
Fatima Robinson turned around and saw her former student running towards her with arms outstretched. “Ang! Ohmigod! I’m so glad you could make it!”
“It’s so great to see you again.” Ang hugged her. “I’ve missed you. What’s this tour again, anyway?” By this time, Katelin had joined them. “Fatima, this is Katelin Taylor. She’s my best friend here in New York.”
“Nice to meet you, Katelin.” Fatima smiled. “I’m Fatima. I’m running these auditions.”
Ang tapped her foot anxiously. “SO?”
Fatima laughed. “The ‘Into the Millennium’ Tour.”
“What?” Ang and Katelin were confused. They had no idea what this woman was talking about.
Fatima’s eyes widened. “You mean, you guys don’t know?” The two friends glanced at each other and then shook their heads. Fatima laughed. “You may be the only two teenaged girls on the planet that don’t. The Backstreet Boys.”
“Are you kidding me?” Katelin whined, rolling her eyes.
“Kate, shut up,” Ang nudged her, before turning back to Fatima. “She’s not the biggest fan of them.”
“I got that much,” Fatima giggled. “They’re really great guys though. A lot of fun. You two would fit in perfectly.” Katelin rolled her eyes again. Ang smiled. “That is if we make it.”
“Ang, believe me,” Fatima reassured her former student, placing an arm around her shoulders. “I’ve seen you dance and if Katelin is as good as you say she is, I’m sure you guys will have no problems. Now go get stretched out. I want to get these underway.” Ang and Katelin nodded and went over to get warmed up.

“Alright guys! The final cut list is up! If you’re name’s on it, be back here at 3pm sharp on Friday. If it’s not, better luck next time!” Fatima yelled as soon as auditions were over. Katelin relaxed a little bit before fighting through the crowd of people while Ang ran right over and looked at the list. “Oh my god! Kate! We both made it!”
Katelin looked up and smiled. “Really? Cool!” The two friends got their stuff together and made their way home.
