"Ok Nick, go have fun, dance with someone, live at least a little bit" Kevin said as he pratically pushed Nick into the crowded club, all of the other guys had been here before, they had never been able to drag Nick out to it.
"Ok, Ok, damn Kevin, chill out" Nick said back as he sped up his pace and continued to walk. The guys had two tables reserved off to the side of the club, everyone took seats around it. Brian and Amber located next to Nick on the left, Ashley, AJ, Lauren, Howie, Kevin, Kevin's girlfriend Sarah and Denise McLean all sat around the table.
"Ok, so I'm twenty six tonight which means I get to take twenty six shots, who's buying?" AJ asked, glancing around.
"Haha, your very funny, there is no way that anybody is putting up with you after you have drank twenty six shots, you get crazier with every year that passes" Denise answered, looking at her son.
"Oh Mom....." AJ complained as everyone started to laugh, Nick pushed a laugh, not wanting to spoil the evening. "Well its my party and I'm goin to dance, who wants the first dance with the birthday boy?" AJ asked.
"C'mon AJ" Lauren said, standing up and grabbing him by the collar of his polo shirt.
"C'mon" Brian said, standing up and pulling Amber up with him. In what seemed like seconds, everyone was out on the dance floor, dancing with whoever they could find to dance with, except Nick.
Nick let out a deep sigh, lifting himself from the chair and making his way over to the bar. He wasn't going there to get drunk, just to sit there, it had a better atmosphere than the dark corner where the tables were. He took the first seat that he came too and sighed again as he sat down, thinking 'if only she was here'. He glanced around at his surroundings, the bar tender behind the bar, a couple of empty seats to his right side and the one to his left side was taken, by a girl.
"Sex on the beach, yours 'mam?" the bartender asked, pushing the drink over in front of the girl.
Nick swallowed, that was the only drink that Whitney ever drank. "Yeah" the girl answered as she grabbed at the drink, picking it up and beginning to let the liquid run down her throat.
Nick just sat there, looking at her drink, looking down the bar on occasion, wishing Whit would walk through the doors at any moment. He looked over at the girl, she was steady drinking, 'must be thirsty or either she is having a really bad day' he thought as he ordered a tropical wine cooler for himself. He twisted the top off of the glass bottle and took a small sip, he couldn't get drunk. He had always been one to drink on the occasion and he'd done his share of partying, but now he had Sidney, he had other people besides himself to look after twenty four hours a day. "God this is going to be a long night" Nick mumbled.
"Excuse me, did you say something?" the girl suddenly asked, turning to her right so she was facing a guy.
"Not really, I was just talking to myself" Nick answered, taken aback by the girl for some mysterious reason. It wasn't just because she had suddenly spoken to him or the slight attitude that was heard in her voice, it was something different, something intense, something that made his heart beat rapidly and sent a shiver down his spine. He hadn't felt this way since her. "Um, do you wanna dance?" Nick found himself asking, the words not even processing in his mind, not aware of what he was asking before they escaped his lips and the question was there, waiting for an answer.
The girl looked at him in surprise, she had to admit he was pretty cute, she couldn't see him as clearly as she would have liked due to the atmosphere that surrounded them. "Um.....yeah..why not" she answered, setting her now empty glass down and sliding off of the stool, stretching her long legs as she stood up. She looked at Nick who was dressed in baggy Abercrombie & Fitch navy cargo pants, Timberland boots and a long sleeved yellow, navy and white Abercrombie t-shirt.
Nick did the same, surveying her as he got up, she was wearing some type of animal print skirt that was more on the shorter side than the longer, Nick finally decided it was zebra print. A three-quarter baby pink shirt that met at the waistline of the skirt, matched good and she had on some type of clunky black shoes. No matter how much he tried to push the thought out of his mind, he had to admit she looked pretty good to him, about an inch or two taller than Whitney and she was the only girl that he had seen in years that even partially compared to Whit's beauty. The two met side by side on the dance floor and then were in front of one another, Nick slid his arms around her waist, shaking a little, it'd been so long since he'd touched a woman. The girl's arms went around his neck and piano music seemed to float around them, then came lyrics. It was 'Seven Seas' by Babyface.
"Sitting by the window
All day thinking of you
Watching the days go by
I started to cry
But they weren't tears of sadness
They only meant I love you
And I wanna tell you girl that I, oh, I
I'll travel 'round the seven seas for you
It's written in the melody I adore you
I wrote my love a symphony
To show you there's nothing I won't do
Baby I'll walk around the China Wall for you
If there's a way I'll do it all for you
Anything you want me to
You know I would do
People think I'm crazy
They say I'm just a nothing
Letting my life pass me by
Believing you're with me
Well I can't speak for no one
But in my heart I know you love me
And that's why I'll always tell you I, oh I, oh I, oh I
I'll travel 'round the seven seas for you
It's written in the melody I adore you
I wrote my love a symphony
To show there's nothing I won't do
Baby I'll walk around the China Wall for you
If there's a way I'll do it all for you
Anything you want me to
You know I would do"
The song ended and the slow tempo that had been set through out the club suddenly turned back to its upbeat mode as 'Be With You' by Enrique Iglesias came on. Usually Nick would already be making his way back to his seat by now, but as he turned slightly his legs seemed to lock in place and he found himself still on the dancefloor, already started to move to the musics rythym. The girl did the same, letting the sound heard by her ears take over her whole body. Nick who only stood taller than her by about four inches watched her body move close to his and caught a glimpse of her eyes as the revolving lights passed by them, he knew they were blue, but couldn't tell the exact shade. He forgot about the color of her eyes for a moment as himself and the girls lips began to softly sing the lyrics to the song.
"Monday night and I feel so low
Count the hours they go so slow
I know the sound of your voice
Can save my soul
City lights, streets of gold
Look out my window to the world below
Moves so fast and feels so cold
And I'm all alone
Don't let me die
I'm losing my mind
Baby just give me a sign
And now that your gone
I just wanna be with you
And I can't go on
I wanna be with you
Wanna be with you
I can't sleep I'm up all night
Through these tears I try to smile
I know the touch of your hand
Can save my life
Don't let me down
Come to now
I've go to be with you somehow
And now that your gone
I just wanna be with you
And I can't go on
I wanna be with you
Wanna be with you
And now that your gone
Who am I without you now
And I can't go on
I just wanna be with you
And now that your gone
I just wanna be with you
And I can't go on
I wanna be with you
Wanna be with you"
Their two bodies moved at the exact beats, Nick had to admit, this girl could dance. He looked down her, smiling for once that night, she flashed a smile back. Another fast song came on and once again the two found themselves dancing.
"My god, it is a miracle" Brian said, glancing across the club, to see his best friend.
"Damn, hes actually dancing with someone" AJ agreed.
"Its about time" Howie mumbled as he continued to dance.
