Chapter Five

"Um, do you happen to see a pay phone anywhere around here?" the girl asked, looking over at Nick. She no longer had to shout questions due to the factor of the lowering noise level around them, it was almost four o'clock in the morning and the clubs activity was beginning to fade away, second by second.

"Um, no, I don't think there is one here, why do you need a pay phone at four AM anyways?" he answered.

"I need to call a cab to come and pick me up, I didn't drive myself here, even if I did, I've had three 'sex on the beach's and I don't need to drive after I've consumed any type of acholol" the girl replied.

"Where are you staying?" Nick asked.

"Ocean Drive Hotel, fifth and Main, well that's where I'm at for the moment" She answered.

"I know the place, I could give you a ride, if you want, I have to go by there anyways" he replied.

"Seriously?" she asked.

"Positive" he answered.

"Well, I guess, thanks" She said.

"Ok, well, um just sit tight for a minute, I gotta go find somebody, ok?" Nick said back. The girl nodded. "Brian" he said, coming up behind his best friend as he still danced.

"Yeah?" Brian asked.

"When are you leaving?" Nick answered.

"In a few, why?" Brain replied.

"Just asking, I'm going to go ahead and leave, I sorta gotta drop somebody off, I'll be by to get Sid on my way home" Nick said.

"Ok, sure man, take your time" Brain said back, hoping maybe this person 'he sorta had to drop off' was a girl who would spark something in the dead love life of Nick Carter. He smiled to himself as he watched Nick walk back across the club and then exit with the girl by his side.

"Yes, he left with a girl, thank you god!" AJ excalimed as everyone continued to their dancing.

"My cars the Durango, to your left" Nick said as they walked out of the club. The girl nodded as she made her way towards the car that he had instructed. Nick unlocked the door from her side, opened it for her and then went over to the driver's side. He positioned himself behind the steering wheel and let the engine run for a moment before putting the car in drive and starting off towards his destination. The car ride had little conversation, just enough to keep them out of total silence. Nick still hadn't caught the girls name, so he decided maybe he'd get an answer, "Whats your name, just for the record" Nick joked.

"Neve, yours?" she answered.

"Nick" he said.

"Oh, this is it up here on the right" Neve said, as the hotel lights came into view. Nick pulled up to the entrance of the hotel so she wouldn't have to walk a long distance, he put the car in park and released his foot off of the break. Neve reached for the door handle and as soon as the door was remotely open, the interior lights of the car came on, "Thanks again" she said, looking over at Nick as she got out, that's when he noticed it, her eyes.

"Um....your..your welcome" he stumbled over his words for a moment. 'No it can't be' he thought, 'they only belong to her and Sid, nobody else'. He politely smiled before she shut the door, he looked from the window to make sure she got into the hotel safely then went in route across town to get his daughter.

Nick passed AJ's Expedition which Denise was driving, leaving as he got into Brian's neighborhood and guessed they had just arrived home. He got to Brian's house as Kevin backed out of the driveway, waved to Nick and made his way towards home. Brian and Howie were in the driveway, trying to get a drunk AJ out of Brian's BMW and into the house.

"I swear, if he throws up in my car, I'm going to have to kill him" Brian was complaining as Nick reached the two and helped in the process that they had went through after so many previous nights of partying. After minutes of struggling, they finally got AJ out of the car and into the house, their next object was the stairs, they just decided to basically drag him since he was mostly passed out, they finally made it upstairs and put him in the guestroom.

Brian went back downstairs to thank the baby sitter for staying while Nick went to get Sidney. He opened the door to Skylar's room where the two girls slept peacefully in the double bed. Nick tip-toed across the floor and made his way to Sid's side of the bed where he removed the covers from her sleeping body, found her blanket and wrapped it around her before any cold could get to her body.

"Daddy...." Sidney mumbled against his shoulder as she rest her head in the crevice of his collar bone.

"Yeah, we're going home, go back to sleep baby" Nick said, smoothing down the child's hair and humming her a lullaby. Soon she was lightly snoring against his shoulder, he walked into the livingroom and thanked the baby sitter himself, then told all of the remaining friends goodbye. He made his way back out to the Durango, strapped Sidney into the passenger side seat and then made his way towards home. Watching her sleep in the seat he didn't know what he was going to do with his life, he always had his career, the group had finally established themselves as a vocal harmony group and not just a boy band, they still recorded most of the time and toured alot. It was the nights at home that got to him, the nights when he didn't have anyone to hold, anyone to feel lay close to him as they slept.

He couldn't stand staying in an empty house, Sidney was all he had besides the guys, but what was going to happen when Sidney grew up and moved on with her life. What was going to happen when she wanted to go to sleepovers, Nick couldn't deny her the privelages of being a teenager just because he had been caught in a love warp in which he couldn't find anyone to compare to the person he'd lost. And even worse, when Sidney decided to go to college somewhere, she'd never be home, she was only three and a half and she still had a long time to go, but she was growing up and to Nick, fast. Soon the driveway was in veiw and he stopped by the mail box to collect his daily junk, he laid it in the seat beside Sidney where another assortment of papers and envelopes lay, then pulled into the driveway. He collected the mail and papers in one hand, Sidney in his other arm and then made his way into the house, he threw the mail onto the counter, deciding to check it in the morning, then made his way upstairs with sleeping beauty on his arm, he tucked her in then let his own self give into sleep.
