Chapter 29

Krystal was watching Aaron while I started packing everything one morning, two weeks later. She followed me into my bedroom and sat down on my the bed with Aaron on her lap:

“You do know that he’s going to kill you, don’t you?” I rolled my eyes:

“Oh please. Like I give a shit. He’s the one that wants us to move in so badly. He can wait a little bit.”

“A little bit, Kate? You haven’t even started yet!” Just then the doorbell rang. Krystal ran down to get it with Aaron on her hip. She threw the door open:

“Hey Nicky!” Nick walked in and reached for Aaron:

“Hey Krys. By the way, don’t ever call me that again. Hey Aaron! What’s up little man?” Aaron buried his head into Nick’s shoulder and Krystal and Nick laughed. Nick glanced around the living room:

“Where’s Kate?” Krystal pointed upstairs:

“Still packing.” Nick handed Aaron back over to Krystal and started up the stairs.

“Just don’t kill her!” She called after him. Nick walked down the hall and stopped at the doorway to my room. I looked up from the box that I was packing.:

“Well don’t just stand there with your mouth hanging open! Help!” He walked in, shaking is head:

“Is there anything that you HAVE packed?” I threw a suitcase at him:

“Yes. Aaron’s room. Now empty the dresser into here.” He took it from me and walked over to the dresser while I returned to digging through my closet.

Nick’s P.O.V.

I shook my head and laughed at Kate while she buried herself in her hundreds of pairs of shoes:

“Think you got enough there?” She glared at me:

“If I want your opinion, I’ll ask for it.” I sighed and went back to cleaning out her dresser as she walked out of the room.

I finished packing her second drawer and proceeded to open the top one. I smiled inwardly, realizing that it was her underwear drawer. Something in the back corner of the drawer caught my eye. A shoe box. Letting my curiosity get the best of me, I pulled it out and opened it. Tears formed in my eyes as I realized what it was. It was everything that had to do with me. With us. Pictures, movie stubs, a rolled up old t-shirt of mine, her ticket from the 1998 Homecoming concert right after we had met. My ‘Frack’ hat was also in there. Hadn’t seen that since the day she moved out. Now I know why.

I heard footsteps coming down the hall and I quickly shut the box and put it back in the drawer. Katelin walked in and went back over to her closet and stood on the chair:

“Can you help me a sec?” I stood up and walked over to her:

“Sure, babe.” She threw me a look that clearly said ‘Don’t you dare call me that.’ I laughed at her expression. She glared at me:

“Just stand there while I hand you this stuff.” She reached up and started handing me shoe boxes one after another. When we were about halfway done, Katelin lost her balance and fell into my arms. After I caught her, neither one of us moved. I stared straight into her deep blue eyes. Our faces were thisclose. I wanted to kiss her so badly but I knew I’d probably get smacked right across the face if I even tried.

We heard Krystal walk in and quickly broke away from each other:

“Hey guys! I’m going to take Aaron down to Bri’s, okay?” Katelin kissed Aaron goodbye:

“Alright, thanks Krys. Bye Aaron, sweetie.” Krystal left and I opened my mouth to say something about what just happened but Katelin cut me off:

“Just finish packing, Nick.” I sighed and turned to the nearest box. Nothing else was said for the rest of the time we packed.
