Chapter 30

Kate’s P.O.V.

Nick and I finally finished packing my bedroom later that afternoon. I mentally kicked myself for what almost happened before. The wall that I had built around my heart was slowly crumbling and I knew that living with Nick was only going to speed up that process. Something I did not want to happen.

We packed as much as we could into my Cherokee and in Nick’s Durango and headed over to Nick’s beach house. We would have to make a few trips. Finally, after hours of driving back and forth, we had unpacked all of mine and Aaron’s stuff at Nick’s.

Nick and I both collapsed on the couch after we were finally done. The phone rang just as Houston jumped up on my lap. I made no effort to move, so Nick grabbed it:

“Yeah?…What’s up man?…Okay….Yeah, that’s fine…We’ll get him tomorrow..Thanks…Bye!” He hung up the phone:

“Brian said that since it’s late, they’ll just keep Aaron tonight.” I yawned:

“That’s fine.” I stood up and walked outside on the deck, wanting to get away from Nick’s entrancing blue glance. Staring out at the moon reflecting off the ocean, I thought about the first time I had moved into this house two years ago. I was so lost in thought that I didn’t hear Nick walk out. He came up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist. I tensed up:

“Nick…” He squeezed me tighter:

“Shh….Remember the last time you moved in?” I sighed. He knew me too well:

“Don’t do this, Nick.” He pushed the strap of my tank top down and kissed my bare shoulder:

“Just let yourself go, Kate.” I bit my bottom lip.

“I can’t.” I whispered. Nick moved his lips to my ear:

“What are you so afraid of? You know I won’t hurt you again.” A single tear rolled down my cheek:

“I never thought you would in the first place. It was never a question.” He sighed and started kissing my neck and nibbling on my ear:

“You know you still love me, Kate. I know you do. Just let yourself go.” As much as I wanted to walk away, I melted in his arms. I squeezed my eyes shut as my breathing became ragged:

“Please..stop…Don’t do this, Nick.. Please.” He didn't listen:

“That doesn’t sound too convincing. Look me in the eyes and tell me you want me to stop…” I let him continue for a second before I gathered all of my strength and turned around to look at him.

“I want you to stop.” I whispered. Nick studied my face carefully for a minute:

“I don’t think you do.” He pressed his lips to mine. I tried to fight him but he just held me tighter. I eventually gave up as all of my defenses came crashing down. I parted my lips and he slid his tongue in. Still kissing me, he picked me up, carried me up to his bedroom, and laid me down on the bed before climbing on top of me:

“I love you, Kate. Please let me show you."

I woke up around 3am and looked at Nick. His hair was hanging down over his eyes, his mouth was slightly open, and his arm was draped across my bare stomach. I cursed myself for being so weak the night before. The last thing I wanted was to let Nick get to me and that’s exactly what I did. I laid there for a little while, listening to Nick’s steady breathing, before I slid out from under his arm, grabbed my clothes, and tiptoed into my room. After throwing on boxers and a tank top, I climbed into my own bed and cried myself to sleep.
