KLÄNG #2 (cd from fognin and one brain) once again eclecticism is the name of the game, with styles ranging from straight ahead punk to noise to industrial electronic, the list goes on and on. unlike the first KLÄNG cd tracks are not restricted in length though, so there are more 'song' tracks, the best of which is by a group with the unfortunate name of GAWK. as soon as i heard their track "AADG," which is a nice weird king crimson-ish instrumental, i looked at the sleeve to see who it was and then once i saw the name said to myself, aw, that's too bad. good song though. another favorite of mine is the short instrumental "double m" by monplaisir, i'm not sure if it's real or sampled or what but it sounds good (it sounds like traditional instruments but i heard another piece by them that was pretty abstract and weird so now i'm not sure). not that there is any shortage of good noise on this recording, from "werkstattblues" by arthur bay and wilhelm gromes, a nice atmospheric piece made of manipulated hammer and saw sounds, to "the last moment" by vok, a fierce digital cutup of harsh feedback and other unidentifiable sounds. like it's predecessor, a wonderful introduction to experimental musicians and noise makers around the world, and worth checking out.
