nuclear pig shit carnivorous rhomboid earthenware (c60 from hospital productions)
when i was thinking of how to spend my birthday cash, i wanted to hear a female noise artist, and nuclear pig shit sprang to mind. so i decided to get
farm noise, and then decided to get this one as well, since it is a complete reworking of the aforementioned, and i figured it'd be a good point of reference in regards to nps' style and so forth, and I had the money, so why not. so then, since i'm getting both the albums i figured i might as well get the pin, too [cos after all, how often do you see a pin that says 'nuclear pig shit' on it? also i knew it would make people at school look at me funny. well, funnier]. but anyway, to a person like myself anyway, this is better and worse than the original. the first side opens with a piano melody that made me think of sixties italian vampire movies, followed by a searing harsh distortion blast, setting the tone for the rest of the album. but the best of this has that soundtrack kind of feel to it, piano over quieter metal percussion and low distortion, with nasty noise bursts. lots more 'nature' sounds than on the first one, some parts are like being in a hastily constructed factory with no walls, malfunctioning machinery and a cracked piano player under a tree banging away dramatically on the low keys. abrupt transitions from nasty distortion to bird and cricket sounds to metal on metal and back again. the last track is continuous distortion, so much it turns into just a noisy drone after a while, and would be lost except for the end where some more heavily distorted piano comes in. comes inside a color booklet [glossy paper, even] tied in a pink bow. best listened to on a portable tape player in a room full of people who don't want to hear it. this one got a rating of "it makes my head hurt here and here" by my brother bret.
