phroq a means to an end (cdr from yuffie's sub quest) the recordings of joy division are many things to many people, and for the purpose of this record they are to phroq a pallet. i can't imagine anyone approaching doing something like this lightly, and the sound of a means to an end reflects the sort of seriousness i'd expect. 'this is the way' builds slowly from complete silence to a quiet bass rumble which slowly gains volume, adding bits of quiet static and far-off filtered/reverbed drums that sound like the clicks of a machine warming up. it continues to get louder and more menacing and just when you expect it'll explode out of your speakers it's over. track two, 'in fear every day', also starts quietly, looped insect-like sounds and intermittent drums, puntucated with harsh scraping feedback and distorted samples that come more often as the track progresses, until everything else is swallowed up in dense layers of noise and high frequency squeals. 'someone take these dreams away' and 'where will it end?' are, respectively, the quietest and loudest tracks of the cd. the former is quiet bass noise and random drums, a bit too similar to the beginning of track two, while the final track incorporates bass/guitar samples with abrasive walls of feedback that at times sounds like shrieking theremins or fast metal friction. altogether a pretty interesting electroacoustic/harsh noise release; standout tracks for me being the first and last.
