Rainbow of Goodness 8.5 (split c60 featuring Glass of Juice and Street Pole Skinner and zine from ROG)
more Glass of Juice and I must say I am officially a fan. this is the weirdest, least structured thing i've heard from mr. gordon deathswamp, and most appeals to my noise guy sensibilities. this could be one big 30 minute shifting song/pop culture sound collage for all i can really tell. tons of weird samples and catchy bits of melody [i caught myself whistling a bit of this while i was eating lunch] through 24 songs ranging from 14 seconds to 2 and a half minutes long, although beyond a few exceptions ['the i.c.c. public service announcement' and 'the missions in jeopardy (R2D2 can suck it)' stand out cos of their cool samples] i couldn't say which is which without a stopwatch. really funny in parts. things get a bit less chaotic on the other side [which makes you sad or relieved, depending on your preference]. Street Pole Skinner does more structured songs, quite a few with vocals, with more of a ska/punk feel to them. some of the guitar stuff sounds the same, but some tracks are pretty good [my favorites are the super silly 'mindless chatter and away' a sped up acoustic guitar song with a really great chorus, inviting lots of Ween comparisons that i'm not gonna make, 'Wacky Joe never had a bad taco' and 'the sun dial tells it like it is']. i would get his tape album if he's still selling it [is he?]. the zine is cool too, really weird and messy. i used way to many brackets on this review.
